Essay Writing Tips for University Students in Cameroon

Essay writing has become a common and well-known assessment procedure in all fields of study and academic works in all university institutions in Cameroon.

Faced with an essay writing situation in the form of, papers, seminars, and projects at every stage of academic pursuit is unavoidable and a sine qua non.

 

Much of your university work will be examined through your final year research work, whether it is an essay you prepare on your own time over a period of days or weeks or one you concoct in a two-hour examination hall.

Do not rush: Students frequently rush to finish essays in a timely manner, forgetting that it is not how quickly you finish that matters, but how well you wrote the essay. Develop the habit of thinking before you put pen to paper.  Thinking before writing will improve your writing and influence your overall understanding of the essay writing process.

 

Plagiarism: Do not deceive yourself. Do not plagiarize other people’s work without crediting them. Includes all references use had cited in the body of the essay.

 

Writing style: Connect your sentences so that it is clear when you are transitioning from one idea to the next. Maintain consistency in your line and spacing. Choose your words wisely. Make sure to dot your i’s and cross your t’s. Your target reader(s) will steer you in the right direction when it comes to shaping your writing language, especially when it comes to not sounding too robotic and formal in presenting your position.
