The University of Buea was created in 1993 as a result of extensive university reforms in Cameroon.
The University of Buea, conceived in the English-speaking tradition, strives to foster the essence of that system while positioning itself within Cameroon’s wider multilingual and multicultural setting.
It is situated in the ancient town of Buea, which was the previous city of German Kamerun, the former capital of the federated State of West Cameroon, and is currently the provincial seat of Cameroon’s South West Region.
Although the University primarily serves students from Cameroon’s English-speaking region, it also serves students from other provinces around the country.
As of 2021, there are currently eight (8) Faculties at The University of Buea.

Graduates of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture will be prepared to meet the current and future challenges of global agricultural human resource needs.
Graduates of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture will be able to work for themselves or pursue careers in crop production and protection, horticulture, animal production, forestry, food industries, and research and development.

#2. Higher Technical Teachers’ Training College Kumba (HTTTC)
By Presidential Decree No201/090 on March 7, 2014, the University of Buea established the Higher Technical Teachers’ Training College (HTTTC) in Kumba.
The institution’s principal goal is to prepare instructors to teach at Cameroon’s technical institutions and high schools.
The school is located in the city of Kumba, Meme Division, in the Republic of Cameroon’s South West Region.

#3. Advanced School of Translators and Interpreters (ASTI)
In 1985, the Advanced School of Translators and Interpreters (ASTI) opened its doors to the global population. ASTI was the University Centre’s sole institution until 1993, when it was converted into a full-fledged university by decree N° 92/074 of April 13, 1992.
Since its founding, the school has been the only government institution in Cameroon that teaches professional translators and interpreters for the public and private sectors to national and international standards.
ASTI has admitted and educated professional translators and interpreters at the master’s and postgraduate diploma levels since its founding.
The institution has grown in importance and renown over the years as a result of the high quality of translators and interpreters it produces. Its goods are well-made and come with solid professional knowledge.
The seriousness of ASTI’s purpose is evidenced by the high-quality services provided by its products in both the public and commercial sectors in Cameroon and internationally.
