How to gain admission into the University of Buea and Bamenda

The University of Buea and the University of Bamenda are one of the most prestigious English Speaking universities in Cameroon. The University of Buea is located in the Fako Division in the South West Region of Cameroon while the University of Bamenda is located in the North West Region of Cameroon.

These two states’ universities have become a dream come true for every high school student in English Speaking Region of Cameroon as a place to pursue their university studies.

However, due to the high number of students across the English-speaking region of Cameroon and a fraction from the French-speaking region of Cameroon, Entrance to the University of Buea and the University of Bamenda has become so competitive.

Thus, this blog article would guide you on the step-by-step guide on how to gain admission into the University of Buea and the University of Bamenda.

Step 1: Apply on Time

The first official step to gain admission into the University of Buea and the University of Bamenda is to apply on time. Admission duration is often last 20-30 days in these two universities when launched.

It’s advisable to be among the first applicant(s) to apply for admission into these universities when it’s officially launched.

How then can you be among the first applicant to apply for admission, well, its advisable for you to always visit the official websites of the University of Buea and the University of Bamenda during the early months of September, as this is often the official month of the year during which admissions are launched?

Step 2: Meet the Basic Requirements for Admissions

To successfully gain admission into the University of Buea and the University of Bamenda respectively, you will need to meet the basic requirements for admissions. This involves having a minimum pass in at least four GCE O/L subjects (including English Language) and a minimum pass in 2 A/L subjects.

However, students whose first language is not English and those who failed the English Language would be required to write an English Language Test during the admission period.

Step 3: Meet all the financial requirements for Admission

The third criteria for having successful admission to the University of Buea and the University of Bamenda are to meet the basic financial requirement for admission.

At the University of Buea, the registration form for undergraduates is 10,000 FCFA while for postgraduates is 20,000 FCFA.

While in the University of Bamenda, the admission form for undergraduates cost 12,000 FCFA while postgraduate cost 20,000 FCFA.

Other, basic financial requirements such as platform charges might be required during the admission process, thus, it’s advisable to have a minimum of 18,000 FCFA for undergraduate admission and a minimum of 25,000 FCFA for postgraduate admission in both universities.

Step 4: Apply to Programs that you meet the requirements

The fourth criteria for gaining successful admission into the University of Buea and the University of Bamenda are to apply for programs that meet the basic departmental requirements.

What this mean is that, even though you meet the basic university requirements of having a minimum of having a past in 4 GCE O/L and 2 A/L papers, certain departments (programs) in the university have further criteria that you must meet before you can gain admission.

For Example, in the Department of Biochemistry in the Faculty of Science University of Buea, you will need to have minimum A/L points of 10 before you can gain admission into the Department of Biochemistry. For Microbiology, you will need to have a minimum of 7 A/L GCE points before you can be admitted into the Department of Microbiology.

Step 5: Some Programs require an entrance examination

Note that not all programs at the University of Buea and the University of Bamenda require direct entry through admission. Some faculties such as the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), College of Technology, and Faculty of Health Sciences require a competitive entrance examination before you can gain admission into these programs.
