I will do this…. I will do that…The high level of procrastination among university students in Cameroon is a result of the influence of social media and celebrity gossips, paying too much attention to political matters that are of little concern to you.

Have a side hustle, have different plans and strategies because one will likely fail.

4. Always blaming others for their conditions
Just like most poor people do, many university students in Cameroon play the blame game.
They blame their parents, blame their friends, blame their uncles and family relatives, blame their school system, and blame their government.
The earlier you realize that nobody owes you anything, the better for you. Learn to appreciate people and stop feeling that you deserve more or that society owes you.
The truth be told, you are a University student; no longer in secondary school.
You should start taking full responsibility for your life.
Stop blaming others for your failure, stop blaming others for the things that happen to you.
Yes, the society or government might owe you but know this clear “99% of what happened to you in your life is as a result of your actions”. so take the right actions now and stop playing the blame game.
5. Not planning for the future
A lot of University students in Cameroon have a bad habit of not thinking and planning for their future.
Your professional career planning does not start when you graduate from university, because your development as a professional is a life project, and you must promote it to achieve success.
As Benjamin Franklin put it “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!”.
He who does not plan is doom to fail. As a university student in Cameroon, you need to start asking yourself, the following questions:
- what will happen to me after graduation?
- What will happen if the government does not employ me?
- What if my sponsor is no more?
You need to stop running away from your responsibility, as the saying goes if you don’t work now at your youthful age, you will work very hard at your old age.
Planning for yourself means you should be a student and not a follower, take advice from people but let what you do be a result of your own decision.
6. Always making up excuses
Most university students in Cameroon have a very bad habit of always giving excuses in every situation.
They give excuses why did not make it to class on time, why they did not write the CA, why they did not pass the exam, why they miss out on the seminar or business meetings, why this ….why that….If you wanted to do it, you would get it done.
Nobody will accept any excuse for your failure. Stop unnecessary excuses and start taking necessary actions.
8. Not saving money
Another important bad habit portrayed by many university students in Cameroon is not making any portion of your cash or allowances in a saving accounting.
When you win a membership, money comes from everywhere.
The higher you go, the more you find that money doesn’t come in the same way as before. It’s going to get to a stage where it feels like your parents and you’ve been rejected by everyone.
In times of trouble, you need money to fall back on.
Lots of students buy too much material (latest phones, dresses, shoes, etc.).
The time has come to learn how to cook. You save a lot of money by cooking and also learn skills that you would find helpful after school.
Find time to learn how to cook, no matter how busy you are. Enhance your cooking skills, whether you’re a boy or a girl.
8. Lack of confident
If you do not believe in yourself, nobody will believe you. Believe in yourself and boost your confidence.
Lack of Confidence is the challenge or bad habit of many University students in Cameroon.
Many students lack self-belief, which affects how they present themselves, and affects how they are viewed by others unintentionally.
It’s daunting for many students to speak to a group of people who talk less about facing an audience.
Yes, we all have our fears, but we must learn to fight their fears at the university level, be it fear of the authorities, fear of men in uniforms, fear of public speaking.
9. Trying to be perfect
Many students tend to pursue the impossible; the impossible in this sense means being a perfect student with great character and a perfect score.
Indeed, having a great character is achievable, but getting a perfect score is almost impossible at this level of education. You are no longer in secondary school, so face realities.
There is no such thing as a person who is fine.
Avoid being so harsh on yourself by learning how to forgive yourself when you make an error or make mistakes.
For each person you come across, there is nothing as pressing as trying to be nice.
We may claim that the leeway to failure is by attempting to please everyone in school and life in general without mincing words. Stop taking to heart what everyone says about you or your acts.
You prefer to deprive yourself of many fun moments in life by listening to others because you fear what people will think.
The reality is that university life is not just about academics; it includes character development, relationship building, and memories of fun.
10. Reading to Impress Others
Many students fail to realize what works for them when it comes to reading.
Some People study to impress others.
This is a very bad thing. You should read when you are emotionally and mentally okay.
Understand the best reading time for you and the environment where you understand better.
Don’t go to tonight’s classes every day, because it is done by some of your mates.
Ensure that it works for you. It’s not a matter of how long you read, it’s a question of whether the book gets into your head.
It has been lost by many students when they want to imitate the reading plan of others.
Don’t copy other people.
Concluding Remarks
