Abstract

This study set to assess the contribution of Civil Society Organisation in the promotion of Human Rights in Cameroon. People faced difficulties in effective enjoyment of their rights. This is because, they rely or look up only to the government for the effective protection and promotion of these right. However, the enforcement and realisation of these rights cannot be effective be achieved by the government, there is the needs for other bodies to participate in the realisation of these rights.

The methodology adopted in the study is qualitative. Data was obtained from the primary and secondary sources. Primary data include laws at it emanate from the legislator, case law and interview. Secondary data include textbooks, thesis, articles, the internet sources as well as seminar and conference papers. Through this methodology, the findings shows that, civil society organizations has been putting up efforts in the Promotion of human rights in Cameroon but so far has been hooked with a series of challenges.

They have not been able to freely carry out their function in the promotion and preservation of human rights due to state control, fear, harassment and intimidation of some civil society activist. This has however shown how complex, challenging, and risky the work of human rights CSO in such an environment where all human rights are at risk, and the extent to which human rights defenders themselves may be exposed to violations of their human rights.
