TEENAGE PREGNANCY AND ITS EFFECTS ON THE MENTAL HEALTH OF GIRLS IN TIKO MUNICIPALITY
Abstract
The goal of this research was to see how teen pregnancy affected the mental health of girls in Tiko Municipality. The study used a survey research approach. To measure the research items, the researcher employed a self-made questionnaire that included both open and closed questions. Respondents were chosen using targeted sampling techniques.
The sample size was calculated using the Sample Size Estimation Table by Krejcie and D. W. Morgan (1970). A total of 70 questionnaires were distributed. The data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The quantitative data was examined using frequency mean and percentages in SPSS 25.0.
Self-image and mental health (r=0.439, p value=0.003), parental support (r=0.4442, p value =0.003), and mental health all demonstrated a moderate positive connection, with self-image and parental support both rising with increasing mental health and decreasing with decreasing mental health. Since the P value is less than 0.05, it also suggests that there is a significant link.
Meanwhile, because the correlation is closer to zero and the significance level is zero, there is no link between social support and mental health (r=0.078, p value=0.621).
Based on these data, it is clear that adolescent pregnancy has a negative impact on the mental health of Tiko Municipality females.
Based on the findings, the researcher proposes that pregnant teens and their parents have a meaningful conversation about their self-image and the connection they are building.
