THE EFFECTS OF TEACHERS’ CONSTRAINTS ON PUPILS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN THE BAKASSI PENINSULA
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to .net4 investigate instructors’ restrictions that impact students’ academic progress in the Bakassi Peninsula. The descriptive survey research design was used for this investigation.
Purposive and simple random selection procedures were utilized in this study to choose schools and then respondents. The study’s population comprised all primary school teachers on the Bakassi Peninsula.
The study’s sample included 52 teachers from elementary schools on the Bakassi peninsula who were chosen at random from all six subdivisions of Ndian. The questionnaire, which was constructed using a modified Likert scale, was the primary data gathering instrument.
The acquired data were analyzed descriptively (using percentages, means, and standard deviations) and inferentially (just for testing hypotheses) using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient analysis was performed to assess the hypotheses at a 0.05 per cent level of significance.
The study’s findings revealed that: 1) the pedagogical constraints faced by teachers in Bakassi Peninsula classrooms have a significant influence on pupils’ academic performance in primary schools in the area; 2) there is a significant relationship between professional constraints faced by teachers and pupils’ academic performance in Bakassi Peninsula primary schools; and 3) teachers in the Bakassi Peninsula face significant social problems that tend to negatively affect their performance. and 4) there is a significant relationship between the physical constraints faced by teachers of the Bakassi Peninsula and pupils’ academic performance in the area.
Based on the study’s findings, the government should provide the fundamental instructional resources, such as textbooks, required to assist in teaching for the instructor and learning for the learner.
Meanwhile, instructors should endeavour to create local resources that might assist make learning more concrete for students, while working circumstances for teachers are improved.
