Abstract

The study examines the efforts of the AU and EU in eradicating poverty for sustainable development in Africa. It examines the concept of poverty, the mechanisms put in place by AU nd EU to eradicate poverty and the challenges faced in the attainment of these objectives.

The research will therefore make a comparison between the AU and EU by adopting the qualitative research methodology which comprises the content analysis of both primary and secondary data.

Findings reveal that the main purpose of establishing the AU was to promote peace, security and cooperation in Africa by integrating policies between member’s states. On it part the EU is an economic union with aim of creating a single market across Europe by removing all trade barriers between member states so that goods could move freely within the internal market. However it has been faced with numerous challenges in its quest to eradicate poverty.

Based on the findings important policy recommendations such as Finding ways to empower marginalized economic groups, Encourage the emergence of economic solidarity among region by developing economic complementaries among the region economic and ensuring common regional policies and positions in multilateral forums so as eliminate poverty.
