THE POETICS OF SENTIMENTAL AESTHICS IN ANGLOPHONE CAMEROONIAN POETRY: A STUDY OF EMMANUEL FRU DOH SELECTED POETRY
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background Of The Study
Cameroon is a culturally diverse country with over 250 ethnic groups, each with its unique language, customs, and traditions. The country’s literature reflects this diversity, with both Anglophone and Francophone literary traditions. However, Anglophone Cameroonian literature has often been marginalized and underrepresented in the country’s literary canon.
This marginalization has been attributed to linguistic, political, and social factors that have limited the visibility and recognition of Anglophone Cameroonian writers in the country’s literary landscape.
One of the prominent Anglophone Cameroonian writers is Emmanuel Fru Doh, a poet, novelist, and literary critic. Fru Doh’s poetry reflects the social and political realities of Anglophone Cameroonians, particularly their experiences of marginalization, exploitation, and deprivation.
Fru Doh’s poetry is characterized by sentimental aesthetics, a mode of expression that foregrounds emotions, feelings, and personal experiences. This study aims to analyze the poetics of sentimental aesthetics in Anglophone Cameroonian poetry, with a focus on the selected poetry of Emmanuel Fru Doh.
