HISTO-PATHOLOGICAL STUDY OF OBESE RAT, RECEIVING FISH OIL AS PREVENTING MEASURE
Abstract
This is usually a very nutritional problem worldwide due to food stuffs deficiency affecting low income groups of people living in rural areas, however there are many sources of under used staple food which have not yet been investigated and despite for their large importance for large group of people
The aim of this study is to find out the effect of extracted oil from fish on lipid profile of mice.
A group of rats were with basal diet with distilled water for some days (test group) and were then fed with oil and distilled water for 15 days. Serum lipid profile (total cholesterol, TC), low density lipoprotein (LDL), High density lipoprotein (HDL) and Triglyceride (TAG) and blood protein albumin were determined by using a cuvette and a spectrophotometer to read absorbance and concentration calculated.
The oil tested was noted to reduce or cause a slight decrease in the serum TC, LDL and TAG but had increased the good cholesterol level in mice. This thus made the oil a good anti-cholesterol agent.
The present study shows that fish oil had a significant effect on obesity (good cholesterol) and regular intake will reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
