FARM TO MARKET ROADS AND ITS IMPLICATION ON RURAL LIVELIHOOD IN CAMEROON
Abstract
This study seeks to explore and investigate the implication of the poor state of farm to market roads, on the rural livelihoods of the inhabitants in Eyumojock Subdivision. The work is structured into chapters, running from chapter one through two, three to five and characterized by subtopics.
The work is made up of one main research question, (how does the farm to market roads affect the livelihood of these communities), which is further broken down into three other specific questions, with a corresponding number for the research objectives and hypotheses.
The conceptual review for the main concepts in the study was done, as well as a theoretical framework was defined, with the aim of putting borders and direction to the work. The research method used in this study, was the cross-sectional survey method, which is characterized by collecting data using research instruments such as questionnaires and interview guides.
The research findings were presented and analyzed in chapter four, using statistical tools such as graphical presentations and descriptive analysis.
Subsequently, a detail discussion which revealed that the farm to market road have and continue to have a direct effect on the livelihood of the inhabitants in these communities, through aspects such as economic exploitation on the value of their farming produce, limited access to markets, impede development among others , and also results in some of the strategies developed by the people in relation to the challenges affecting them, such as selling to local buyers, display of produce by road side, buying or renting of 4Xwheel cars/warehouses, among others.
