ENVIRONMENTAL GOVERNANCE IN CAMEROON
Abstract
Environmental Governance comprises the rules, practices, policies and institutions that shape how humans interact with the environment. Good environmental governance takes into account the role of all actors that impact the environment.
From governments to NGO’s, the private sector and civil society, cooperation is critical to achieving effective governance that can help us move towards a more sustainable future. This work examines Environmental Governance in Cameroon: Case Study of Buea Municipality. This study used a quantitative research design. A survey questionnaire was administered to a sample of 59 respondents.
Findings indicate that, the Government, the United Nation and the International Maritime Organizations has taken majors to preserve the environment. Findings also indicated that Air Pollution, Water Pollution and Atmospheric Pollution are causes of Environmental Pollution. Findings indicate that increase in technology, industrialization and lack of funds are challenges faced in the Protection of the Environment.
The study concluded that, even though the Government of Cameroon and other International Organizations have taken major to preserve the Environment, Environmental Pollution is still a major challenge in the Buea Municipality.
