THE EFFECT OF CREDIT RISK MANAGEMENT ON THE PROFITABILITY OF MICROFINANCE INSTITUTIONS IN CAMEROON
Abstract
The aim of every micro finance institution is to operate profitably in order to maintain its stability and improve in growth and expansion. While various previous studies provide valuable insights on credit risk management, they have not entirely made clear their effects on profitability of micro financial institutions. The purpose of this research is to assess the Effect of Credit Risk Management on the Profitability of microfinance institution with the specific case of micro financial institutions in Buea.
Data was gotten from primary source, that is, questionnaire. The respondents of the questionnaires were selected staff of the local MFIs, the findings of the research show that credit risk management policies has a positive and very strong effect on profitability of MFIs.
In conclusion, since credit provision is the main activity of financial institutions, it is very important to put efficient and effective measures that mitigate risks.
The findings of this research may be useful for MFIs in periodic reviews of credit risk management policies being carried out. This identifies redundancy in policy and puts up measures to combat and improve them. This will go a long way not only to improve the effectiveness of traded businesses but also to boost the economy in general.
