DRUG ABUSE AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE AMONGST YOUTHS IN THE BUEA MUNICIPALITY
Abstract
The researcher intended to find out about drug abuse among youths within the Buea Municipality South West Region of Cameroon. The purpose of the study was to determine the effects of drug abuse within Buea.
The study tested the following hypothesis that is, whether there was a significant relationship between poverty, crime, unemployment, family disintegration and the rise of drug abuse within the Buea Municipality. The purpose of the study was to establish the causes of drug abuse amongst the Youths in Buea.
The study was equally vital in providing the government and law enforcement agencies with measures on how to curb the preference of drug abuse within Cameroon. The research study utilized descriptive survey design to look into the factors contributing to drug abuse. The study focused on the population of the Buea residents. It relied on the law enforcement agents with an interview context.
The accessible population of the Buea residents, the accessible population for the study was 120 respondents while the sample size is expected to be drawn from 90 respondents who consisted of police officers, residents, business class and general public. The researcher adopted a systematic random stratified sampling technique.
The researcher used the questionnaire method as an instrument to collect data. The researcher also used the quantitative data analysis technique during his research study. The researcher anticipates the limitations to be from; attitude of the respondent.
The researcher observed research ethics in the study like confidentiality, privacy, avoiding plagiarisms and fraud, voluntary and informed consent anonymity, the source of the literature and library materials journals, media and government statutory. The researcher accessed data from government institutions including learning places such as schools.
