Abstract

Motor vehicle documentation is both the most significant and the most difficult of the sectors of activity that transportation legislation should address. The automobile is becoming increasingly important in terms of global trade and Cameroonian development.

The increasing number of high-sensitive commodities and time-sensitive items crossing national borders by motor vehicle presents new prospects for commerce and economic development in Cameroon, while also providing individuals with more personal freedom, access to employment, and services. In response, the Cameroonian government has implemented a complex system for motor vehicle paperwork, as well as necessary institutions, to enable a seamless procedure while maintaining compliance.

Unfortunately, motor vehicle users and owners are hesitant to comply with documents. This study critically examines the challenges associated with the compliance of motor vehicle documents in Cameroon’s transport sector, including an assessment of the various documents involved and their rationale, the requirements for obtaining these documents, their protection, and, finally, the challenges.

This research relies on content analysis of primary and secondary sources of information, as well as interviews and personal observations. Primary sources of information include legislation, decrees, and case law, while secondary sources such as textbooks, journals, and articles were used. The internet, other online sources, radio, and television all gave important information.

The study reveals that, poor government fiscal policy Implementation, administrative bottlenecks, judicial hurdles and poor compensation response due for motor accident claims, political unrest in the Anglophone regions, Challenges with the forces of law and order amongst others are the challenges involved with motor vehicle documentation compliance.

This study recommends the institution of a comprehensive body of rules. Strict compliance with the rules and regulations is equally recommended as a key tool to ensure motor vehicle documentation compliance.
