Abstract
This study seeks to examine the effectiveness of the regulation of prices of goods in Cameroon. The regulation of prices has been a long-standing issue among legislators, but unstable and discriminated prices continue exist in the market and this continuously affected many consumers, these consumers and other institutions concerned, with the implementation of consumer protection laws, have strived to address the issue but at times, failed due to the loopholes of the laws, weak governance, lack of institutional structures to facilitate the execution of laws among others.
This study adopts the qualitative research methodology. Information was obtained from the primary and secondary sources. Primary data include laws enacted by the legislator, case law and interview. Secondary data include textbooks, published and unpublished thesis, articles, the internet.
Through the use of this methodology, the findings expose that, the associations in charge of controlling and ensuring the implementation of government policies are not also helping matters much in the way the control is done. This can be seen amongst others in the fact that the heavy fines stipulated by the law to be meted on defaulters are not applied.
May be this would have served as deterrent for those who break any of the laws regulating economic activities in Cameroon. It is therefore recommended that, there should be a holistic implementation of the law so as to ensure effective price regulation in Cameroon.
