THE IMPACT OF ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE ON EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE IN MUSTARD SEED CONSTRUCTION LTD BUEA
Abstract
An organization is a unique entity, created by two or more persons who come together to assemble and coordinate resources in order to pursue their common goal(s). To achieve its goals, every organization must have employees, who serve to build and manage the entire organization. All areas of the business, including intangible business assets, such as, brands, patents, trademarks and intellectual property are all created and run by people (employees).
This makes employees the most important asset of any organization. Faced with new and tougher challenges due to the increasingly dynamic nature of today’s business environment, businesses are paying closer attention to employee performance as a major determining factor of the success or failure of an organization.
Organizational culture refers to the values, customs, beliefs, and assumptions that guide and constitute the business identity of an organization. This paper argues that Organizational Culture has a significant impact on employee performance and also the performance of the business as a whole. This study therefore was carried out to investigate and analyze the influence of organizational culture on employee and business performance, with a focus on MUSTARD SEED Construction, a private organization in Buea, Southwest-Cameroon.
The purpose of this study is to explain and empirically test the effect of the four elements of Organizational culture namely; Vision, Policies, Organizational Values, and leadership styles, on the employee’s performance. Clear recommendations have been given on what could be done to achieve optimum performance by developing the right culture and by intentionally and constantly striving to sustain it.
