CHAPTER ONE
GENERAL INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction
An internship is a purposeful activity of the student set in a work environment in order to obtain learning outcomes with their curriculum. Internship activities help a student to focus on the result and to access the result achieved.
1.2 Definition and Objectives of Internship.
Objectives of internship are to expose me to a particular job and a profession or industry while you might have an idea about what a job is like? You won’t know until you actually perform it if it’s what you thought it was, if you are trained and have skills to do it and it’s something you like.
Significant of internship
The significant of this internship is to put in place the theories and practices into consideration to better up and increase my knowledge and to help build me up to manage my own business in future.
1.3 Presentation of the Company.
Wilson Dacosta Apart Hotel (WDC).
1.4 Company’s History.
WDC Apart Hotel is a 5 star hotel, located in the south west Region of Cameroon, Buea mile 16. It is owned by Mr Wilson Dacosta and it is a sole proprietorship business with many shareholders. The official opening of WDC Apart Hotel was on the 31st January 2019 and it went operational in all the departments with 52 employees but presently, it has 64 permanent workers without part time workers. The hotel has 20 single rooms, and 25 apartments which together sum up 45. Staffs in WDC Apart Hotel where been trained by Western professionals. 1.5 Brief Description of the Various Departments and their Functions.
The reception or the front desk, the bar and restaurant, the kitchen and the housekeeping department. The reception function 24hrs and is based on welcoming or receiving guest and checking in guest and checking them out of the hotel then help solve some minor issues before the notice of the manager. The bar and restaurant is in charge welcoming and serving of customers with food and beverages.
The kitchen is concerned with cooking of healthily prepared meals by professional chefs and cooks while the Housekeeping department plays an important role in the hotel as they are in charge of the hygiene and sanitary of all parts of the hotel and makes sure that each day, rooms are ready to be occupied by guests.
1.5 Definition of Terms.
Front desk: is a part of the building where visitors are been welcomed by the receptionist. It is a place where they check in and check out a guest. All questions are being answered in the front desk.
Bar and restaurant it is a place devoted for food and beverages services.
Kitchen. A kitchen is a room or part of a room used for cooking food presentation in a commercial place or at home.
Housekeeping. It refers to management of duties or chores involved in the running of a household such as cleaning, cooking, maintenance of house.
Steamer. A steamer is a heat engine that performs mechanical work. Is a different form of iron which uses water and electricity before any usage and it is mostly used for materials that are have funny lines after being ironed to remove unwanted lines.
Garnishing is an item used in decoration accompanying a prepared food dish or drink. It may give additional or contrasting flavor.
Trash can is a large or small container for holding waste or garbage.
Microfiber towel. They are made from small fibers. It also means clothes made from plastic for cleaning purposes.
Cold room. It is a type of refrigerator chamber designed for mainly for artificially generated temperature used for storing perishables, beef and most food items for preservation and freshness.
