Abstract

Water scarcity is a pressing issue affecting many communities worldwide, including buea Municipality in Cameroon. This study seeks to examine how water scarcity impacts the human health in the some localities Buea Municipality, with a focus on identifying the factors hindering the community to have access to portable water, analyzing how water inaccessibility affects the health of the local population and to identify the measures that can be put in place to alleviate the problem of water scarcity in the Buea Municipality.

Both primary and secondary data were collected with the use of questionnaire, observation, textbooks, internet sources, journals, which were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics and explained based on the topic. Key findings indicate that water scarcity in Buea Municipality has led to an increase in waterborne diseases, poor sanitation practices, and overall decline in public health. The findings revealed that distance to water sources and the pollution of available water sources were the main causes of water inaccessibility.

Thus, the study recommends the Government, local authorities, local population, NGO’S, and scientist to take sustainable measures towards the provision of clean and uncontaminated water sources for the local community so as to reduce the rate of waterborne diseases in the local community.

They should also implement water conservation measures and raise awareness about the importance of clean water for human health as this would address the immediate challenges posed by water scarcity and promote long-term sustainability in Buea Municipality.

Overall, the study highlights urgent need for action to address water scarcity and its impact on human health in Buea Municipality, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the stakeholders to ensure access to safe and reliable water for all residents.
