Abstract

This project report is based on my project topic “Transport Logistics Management system”, which I have been working on for some period of time. This report explains in detail everything I did during the designing and implementation. The project aims to design and implement a Transport logistics system that will provide a reliable and efficient way of transporting parcels in Cameroon transport agencies.

This application allows the admin of the system to collect information about a particular parcel a customer wants to send which include the sender and receiver information. This helps to ensure that the parcel is transported efficiently and effectively. The system also permits the admin to assign the parcel to a particular carrier and also indicate the type of parcel based on the information given by the sender which is the fragility of the parcel.

The system includes a bar chart that displays the total number of parcels that have been transported in all the agencies within each month per year. This provides valuable insights into the transportation process and can help identify areas of improvement.

CHAPTER ONE

GENERAL INTRODUCTION

1.1 Introduction

Transport logistics Management system is a technology-enabled platform designed to improve planning, execution, and optimization of the physical movement of goods within the country out of country. The system ensures compliance with regulations and proper documentation of the transport process. The system comprises of several component, such as planning, handling, freight forwarding, information Technology.

1.2 Problem Statement

Based on research and findings, our transport agencies face several challenges in the area of transporting packages, including poor registration of parcel information, customers can only do predictions of when their parcel have left and the time it arrives which makes them unsure of how their program would look like that day because they do not want their parcel falling into the wrong hands

1.3 Objectives

This project aims to develop an application that replace the existing handwritten registration of parcel/packages, ensure that clients do not worry about the time of departure and the time of arrival of their parcel/package by notifying them through SMS, and also make the analysis process of how the company has been doing in terms of transporting parcels easy.

1.4 Motivation for the topic

I am a student and I live far away from my parents, so most at times they send me food stuff through the agency and I have to go and collect them when it arrives. Occasionally the time I guess will be the time of arrival of the things sent to me by my family, there is lecture I have to attend at that time due to the fear of not letting my package fall into the wrong hands, I end up abandoning lectures and rush to collect my package unfortunately sometimes the vehicle has not yet arrive due to a break down on the road which I was not aware of and when I ask the service bench they can’t also tell correctly when the vehicle will arrive.

1.5 Study of existing systems

Here is a brief overview of existing transportation management systems:

1. Oracle Transportation Management (OTM):

OTM is a transportation management system developed by Oracle Corporation. It provides a platform for managing transportation operations, including planning and execution, freight payment and billing, and transportation intelligence. OTM is designed to help businesses streamline their transportation processes, reduce costs, and improve customer service.

2. SAP Transportation Management (SAP TM):

SAP TM is a transportation management system developed by SAP SE. It provides a platform for managing transportation operations, including planning and execution, freight payment and billing, and transportation analytics. SAP TM is designed to help businesses optimize their transportation processes, reduce costs, and improve visibility and collaboration across their supply chain.

3. Blue Yonder Transportation Management:

Blue Yonder Transportation Management is a transportation management system developed by Blue Yonder (formerly JDA Software). It provides a platform for managing transportation operations, including planning and execution, freight payment and billing, and transportation analytics. Blue Yonder Transportation Management is designed to help businesses optimize their transportation processes, reduce costs, and improve visibility and collaboration across their supply chain.

All three transportation management systems provide similar functionality and are designed to help businesses improve their transportation processes. The choice of system will depend on the specific needs of the business, as well as factors such as cost, ease of use, and integration with other systems.

1.6 Scope

The scope of this project involves developing a desktop application that helps the transport agencies in Cameroon to manage parcel movement and also create a more serious relationship of the agency with their customers. This system is going to eradicate the manual system our agencies have and create a better preservation of information and source of company analysis.
