A TWO-MONTH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM AT THE TOLE TEA COOPERATIVE CREDIT UNION
Abstract
This report is aimed at reporting the activities of Tole Tea Cooperative Credit union (TTCCUL). The report advances that cooperative society is a worldwide nonprofit making organization which is affiliated under CAMCUL.
The report analyses the economic and social importance of TTCCUL to the community: it grans loans, open accounts for members, safeguards members’ money in various accounts with low interest rate.
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the study
Internship is prerequisite of the University Of Buea in partial fulfillment of the award of a BSc degree. In line with this, I was privilege to be an intern at Tole Tea Cooperative Credit Union ltd Buea Molyko branch.
1.2 Definition of Internship
An internship can be defined as a period of work experience offered by an organization for a limited period of time. Internship can also be defined as an opportunity to integrate carrier related experience into an undergraduate education by participating in a planned and supervised work.
1.3 Characteristic of Internship
- Internship is most successful when the student, university and employer share the responsibility in making it a valuable experience.
- It includes carrier related experience that complement what is learnt in the classroom.
- Internship must be completed before a student graduate from the university.
- It involve a supervision component that is monitoring an educationally.
- A student will have a reflection and evaluation process at the internship.
1.4 Objective of internship
- To provide students preliminary work experience that can prepare them for future carriers.
- To improve upon skills that will help students in future to find a job, like passing the employment test.
- To allow students apply theoretical knowledge acquired during lectures of university studies to practice.
- To allow students to get acquainted to business practices and procedures used in various organization.
1.5 Significance of the internship
For better ascertaining, the significance has been divided into three categories that is significance to the student, employer and the university.
1.5.1 Significance to the student
- An internship provides students with real life experience and exposure.
- Internship will give students a chance to explore what a carrier in their field of study is like.
- Internship exposes students and give them the opportunity to practice communication and team work skills.
- Internship gives students experiences that shapes them and encourages personal development and understanding.
1.5.2 Significance to the employer
- Employers take advantages of low cost labor that interns offer that they could have spent huge sum of money for the job to be done.
- Employers find future employees among the intern during their period in the company.
- Student interns offer possible fresh ideas and new perspective and can be cost effective solution for short term project.
1.5.3 Significance to the university
- Internship strengthens the relationship between the university and the community.
- Make the transfer out process easier, for students had learned some business world skills during the internship period.
- Curriculum can be beneficiary through feedback from the employer, because the employer had to evaluate the students during the internship period and send the reply to the university.

OVERVIEW OF THE ORGANIZATION
2.1 BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ORGANIZATION
Tole Tea Cooperative Credit Union, category one (1) financial institution started in 1970 in Tole and it has existed for over 50years and their first building was constructed in 1996 in Tole. The institution came about through the ideas of the workers of the Tole tea plantation to help them save money, manage their finance effectively and borrow from each other.
Due to the privatization of the CDC tea sector, the new owners could not work in collaboration with the workers and those who borrowed were not able to pay back their loans and the cooperation was faced with financial crisis so it had to open its doors to members of the general public so as to raise more funds to continue and manage the cooperation while looking for ways to recover the loan from members who were delinquent.
The TTCCUL currently have three branches, the Molyko branch which was created in 2004, the mile 16 branch and the third branch which was opened in 2014 in Wototo with Tole being their head office and is limited just in the south west region. TTCCUL is affiliated to CAMCCUL. The credit union has over 4,000 members.
