CHAPTER ONE
Definition Of Internship
Internship is any formal or official program to provide experience for beginners in any profession or occupation. It can as well be defined as a short period of about one to six months and above, where trainees from different major institution go to organization or N G O’s to apply the theoretical aspect of what they studied in school practically.
Importance of Internship
- Internship helps to see the difference between theory and practical work.
- Internship can lead to employment and also helps trainees to gain working experience.
- Internship enables trainees to develop that spirit of team work.
1.1 Creation of the Women’s Empowerment and the Family Centre.
The creation of the women’s center dates as far back as 1969 and were known as social centers for home economic/ management under the CNU party. As from 1977-1978 they were known as Women’s House under the Ministry of Social and Women’s Affairs. In 2000, these centers became women’s centers by decree N°2000/001/PM of 4th January 2000.
In 2005, the family component was added to the ministry, thus the centers are now called Women’s Empowerment and the Family Center. With the advent of decentralization, the centers are now either under the city councils or sub-divisional councils.
1.2 Mission
As technical units of the ministry, centers are the mirrors of the ministry where concrete activities take place for the empowerment of their target group. They are assigned with specific mission which include:
- To provide moral, civic and intellectual training of women towards their economic, social, cultural and even political advancement.
- To educate women and young girls on responsible parenthood, mother hood and childhood.
- To teach women entrepreneurial skills and career trade liable to ease the mainstreaming into socio-professional cycle. This is in order to be self -employed.
- To equip women with marketable and vocational skills in order to facilitate their social professional insertion and re-insertion.
1.3 Objectives of the Organisation
The organization has both general and specific objectives for the benefit of their target group which include;
1.3.1 General objectives
To empower its target group socially, economically, culturally and practically.
1.3.2 Specific objectives
- To develop and improve women’s capacity building.
- To enable women have that economic autonomy(independence).
- To enhance women’s financial contribution to family welfare.
- To create awareness on health issues to better family life.
- To enable women acquire whole management skills.
