PRESENCE DETECTION USING WIRELESS CAMERA NETWORK AND DATA TRANSMISSION FOR SECURITY: CASE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL
Abstract
Surveillance systems are becoming critical part of our society and they play major roles in monitory of critical infrastructure, streets, public buildings, private buildings, properties etc. Policing and visual evidence gathering has supported and changed the way our judicial systems use supporting evidence in passing verdicts. Warfare is being changed by such systems as well. Wireless sensor networks are playing key roles in how we pick information from our physical environments and analyze them and the dawn of Internet of things has open up new opportunities in using sensors in making life better. This work present security of students using camera, motion detection, GSM, and arduino. Once after taking and register those students in our data base the camera will be able to identify each students with they are names and the hols. the camera will take picture depend if the motion detection is activated and save automatically. if there is any person which are not identified, the arduino will ask to the GSM to send the alert message to prevented.
CHAPTER ONE
GENERAL INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background Of Study
Video surveillance, closed-circuit TV and IP-camera Systems be- came virtually omnipresent and indispensable for many organizations, businesses, and users. Their main purpose is to provide physical security, increase safety, and prevent crime. They also became increasingly complex, comprising many communication means, embedded hardware and non-trivial firmware. However, most research to date focused mainly on the privacy aspects of such systems, and did not fully address their issues related to cyber-security in general, and visual layer (i.e., imagery semantics) attacks in particular. In this paper, we conduct a systematic review of existing and novel threats in video surveillance, closed-circuit TV and IP-camera systems based on publicly available data. The insights can then be used to better understand and identify the security and the privacy.
risks associated with the development, deployment and use of these systems. We study existing and novel threats, along with their existing or possible countermeasures, and summarize this knowledge into a comprehensive table that can be used in a practical way as a security checklist when assessing cyber-security level of existing or new CCTV designs and deployments. We also provide a set of recommendations and mitigations that can help improve the security and privacy levels provided by the hardware, the firmware, the network communications and the operation of video surveillance systems. We hope the findings in this paper will provide a valuable knowledge of the threat landscape that such systems are exposed to, as well as promote further research and widen the scope of this field beyond its current boundaries.
Recently man’s work and life are increasingly complicated with the rapid growth in communication as well as information technology. Due to the rapid economic growth the living standard has kept raising everyday such that people have a higher requirement for dwelling functions. This information based society has changed the peoples’ way of life as well as challenged the customs. The intellectualized society brings diversified information where safety, economical, comfortable and convenient life has become the ideal for every modern family. Now the trending concept of smart home has focused the attention of researchers, consumers and the lifestyle practitioners to be directed towards the usage of the recent technologies. Considerable efforts have been made for the development of remote control systems in home automation. This system uses the mobile phone as the input controlling device which cannot be connected through any other users interface.
1.2 Problem Statement
The increase of insecurity in secondary schools in Cameroon has become a major concern for authorities both at local and national level. The recent unfortunate death of a professor in Yaoundé added to injuries faced by teachers and other threats in the school milieu have made the Minister of Secondary Education to prescribe the use of surveillance cameras for security in schools.
1.3 Objectives
The overall objective of this project are:
- Increase security in secondary schools in Cameroon by using camera
- Establish wireless communication between camera, arduino, motion detection and GSM
1.4 Significance of study
Here we present a simple control system that could solve this problem. Our system is made of a network of wireless cameras installed at strategic locations in school and possibly inside classrooms. The cameras monitor in real time the activity of learners, their interactions with the teachers and staffs in class, collect videos that are sent wirelessly to a data base that is instantly analyzed by an operator or could be used later. Depending on the storage capacity of the system, images can be stored for a fixed period but those which are of importance may be kept for longer period depending on the use. The data base contains photos, names and classrooms of all the students and the systems must be able for a specific scene to build and produce the list of students involve. If the photo does not correspond to any name or classrooms, a buzzer is activated (or sms sent) for rapid intervention as the action continuous in other to arrest the concern person which is supposedly an intruder.
