CHAPTER ONE
GENERAL INTRODUCTION
1.1What Is Internship?
Internship is a period where by students are given the opportunity to gain skillful experience in their field of study in an organization. It is an excellent way to “try out” a certain career.
An internship is design to extend a student learning opportunity beyond the classroom setting. It helps the student to work with a supervisor from their faculty and a sponsor from the organization to gain hands-on experience in professional work that relate to their academic. Most internship is temporary assignment that last approximately from three months to a year.
An intern is anyone carrying out internship or industrial training. An intern may be university student or postgraduate adult. This position may be paid or unpaid and it usually temporarily. An internship consist of an exchange of services for experience between the students and an organization.
This internship was carried out in a microfinance institution(NC4D) which it’s a category two microfinance.As a student it’s going to help me build my professional skills as a banker of an institution.
1.2 Functions of an Intern
- As an intern you have the responsibility of coming early to work before the staff.
- As an intern, you are incharge of administrative task like photocopying,filling of the customers slip.
- As an intern you have to be very respectful and obedient.
- An intern assist in selling some products especially with a company which has to deal with physical products.
1.3 Characteristics of Internship
The following are some of the characteristics;
- It is planned and schedule through consultants with the department of university so as to fit in the undergraduate experience.
- It consist of supervisory component that is monitoring and education.
- It contribute to the student’s professional development through work assignment and it’s completed before graduation.
- It builds relationship between departments, students and employers.
- It motivate students to continue pursue their educational career.
- It help students build up career attitudes conducive to effective for interpersonal relationships.
1.4 Objectives of Internship
This refers to the aims or goals of doing internship; where the main aim is to help students match theory and practical that is matching up what is taught in class and applying it in the field of studies. It creates a link between learning and professional employment.
Some of these objectives include;
- Internship is going to help students develop skills and techniques directly applicable to their careers.
- It will also help students adjusting from college to full time employment
- It acts as an opportunity for student s to test their interest in a particular career before permanent commitment are made.
- It also help the intern know more about the organization.
- It also acts as an opportunity to earn salary while pursuing educational goal.
1.5 Importance of Internship
Internship is important not only to students or the interns but also to the organization as well as the university from which those students are from.
To The Students
- It offers students a hands-on opportunity to work on their desired field.
- It also helps to build valuable experience that makes them stronger candidates
- For job after graduation.
- It gives students a higher sense of career preparation which could be in
- Computer skills, job interviewing, creative thinking.
- It help students learn how their course of study is applied in the real world.
- Internship help students with reliable opportunities for growth through the canopy of mentors, attendance at meeting and actual performance of duties. .
Value to Organization (Kipccul)
- It help the organization identify vacant spaces in the organization.
- It helps them to be able identify good and hardworking staffs who can be employed.
- During this period, organization is able to figure out its strength and weaknesses from the interns who bring in ideas from the factors affecting the organization.
- It help to build a friendly atmosphere in the community and also create social link between students and university.
- There’s reduction of work through some of the activities rendered by the interns like running of errands etc. there by reducing cost which might be paid for by the organization.
- The interns have an effect on the performance of the organization; bringing ideas to attain the goals of the organization concerning the products they offer as well as services.
To The University
- It helps to increase the value of the university by sending its potential students to the organization to gain professional experience.
- It helps the lectures to identify the strength and weaknesses of the students to better prepare them for the future.
- It helps with retention and graduation,
- It helps to create professional ties with the various organization.
- It‘s a powerful marketing tool and the university to establish partnership within the business community.
- Furthermore to all the above individuals because it acts as a form of publicity, networking and advertisement.
CHAPTER TWO
PRESENTATION OF THE ORGANIZATIONS
3.1 Area Of Study
3.1.1 History Of Company
Before the creation of Nkong Credit Union for Development (NC4D, NADEV) was formed as NCIG at Lebialem Hill Top, Great Soppo in June 1996. The first office was opened in campaign street at great Soppo in 1998, on the international women’s day they won the first trophy for promoting women’s income generating activities in the year 1999, they also won the 1st prize at the provincial agricultural show seed maize in the year 2000.
However, they also thought of creating a financial institution which could serve as a lending source of their beneficiaries NC4D was created in the year 2009, and the baby branch where the intern carried out the research was created in 2013. Their main aim was to reach out to the financial need of women and the community. Their aim was to;
- Settle its members
- Micro financial services to rural and urban women
- The community
These are other members of the community who do transact with NC4D such as money transfer the ideas welcomed are those that can change the system of NC4D, improve their performance as well as the profitability of the microfinance.
Their dream was so because they had passion for women, due to the ancient philosophy which gives less or no privilege to women, thus, they were suffering and did not have collaterals to take loans in spite of their developmental ideas the emphasis laid on women because training women was training an entire community, whereas training a man is training an individual.
Their main objectives after their creation was to promote acees to savings, depiosits, loan especially in areas without banks, they are recognized by Banking Commission for Central Afrinacn States (COBAC), (Ref. No. D/2-2008/184 OF 26/11/2008).
By Cameroon government (ministry of Finance) Ref. Agreement No. 00204 of July 2009. They have 6 branches which are Menji, Muyuka, Bonaberi-Douala, Muyenge, Kumba and Bomaka-Buea with its head office at Great Soppo Branch.
