MANUAL GEARBOX
Abstract
This report talks on a B.Tech project, an manual gearbox, also known as amanual transmission, where gears changes require the driver to manually select the gears by operating a gear stick and clutch.
This project is a pedagogical tool intended to be used by teachers and student to explain the functionality of a gearbox, the project is made by 3D printing the individual parts using materials like Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and Polylactic acid (PLA), after the gearbox parts are printed they are assemble together with the help of bearings, screws and washers.

The gearbox is a mechanical device used to increase the output torque or to change the speed (RPM) of a motor. The shaft of the motor is connected to one end of the gearbox and through the internal configuration of gears of a gearbox, provides a given output torque and speed determined by the gear ratio.
The most basic definition of a gearbox is that it is a contained gear train, or a mechanical unit or component consisting of a series of integrated gears within a housing. In fact, the name itself defines what it is a box containing gears.
Problem Statement
This project is an manual gearbox that is used as a teaching tool, I decided onthis project because of my experience on internship, when I was interning at a garage, I was informed by some of the workers that the gearbox is one of the rarest part of a vehicle to have afault and so you can be working at the garage for more than 2 years and never even see it opened.
Knowing this I also assumed that many students can go to internship and not even see the inside of a gearbox, and from lectures of our teacher telling us that it is better to see that just hear, I decided on a gearbox as my project in not just helping myself understand how it functions but to help others students understand as well.
Aim and Objectives
Schools lack proper tools for teaching engineering students like mechanical engineers, for example buying a gearbox for students is too much of an expensive purchase, which is why I decided on making a gearbox for pedagogical use.
