CHAPTER ONE
PRESENTATION OF THE ORGANIZATION
1.1 Historical Background Of CDC
The company Cameroon development corporation (CDC) is a big agro-industrial establishment that grows, process and market tropical crops and it is incorporated in the year 1947 to acquire development and operate extensive plantation of tropical crops namely Rubber, palm oil and Banana in the Littoral and South west Region.
The company and its operations management is directed by a general manager and governs by board of directors also headed by chairman. Currently, its plantation covers a total of approximately 41000 hectares of land, 38000 hectares which is mature and of production. From these crops it produces semi-finished rubber, palm oil and top carded edible banana for local and export markets.
CDC employs close to 22000 employees, making it the second largest employer in Cameroon after the state in job enhance rural development and plays a vital role in the nation building. The corporation issued share capitals is 35.7 billion FCFA. CDC is sorely own by the state of Cameroon under the technical supervision of the ministry of Agriculture and rural development under the financial tutelage of the ministry of finance.
CDC carries out activities which go beyond her scope in a bid to better the living condition of her employees, their families and the community at large. This corporation provides services such as portable water; bore hole in the Matouke rubber project and Boa plains, free electricity, road maintenance is the duty par excellence of the technical service department throughout the corporation.
1.2 A Brief History of the Mondoni Palm Oil Mill.
The CDC palm oil mill in mondoni was inaugurated on the 29th of February 1972 by his Excellency El Hadj Amadou Ahidjo president of the federal republic of Cameroon at that time.
The mill was design to give an output of forty (40) tons per hour running on two phases but in 1975, 25 tons was running per hour in a single phase
1.3 Objectives of the organization
- To purchase, create, administer and develop plantations of tropical crops (palm plantation, rubber plantation and banana plantation) for the production and processing of palm oil and semi-finished rubber.
- To sell agricultural products in their raw state or after industrial processing, grading and packing.
- To assist small holder schemes or group engage in the cultivation of crops similar to those cultivated.
Products And Services Of CDC
CDC major crops and their location
As mention above, the CDC major crops are rubber, palm oil and banana. These crops are divided into groups department within the corporation.
- The Group Rubber Department
The group rubber department is headed by a group rubber manager (GRM). There are ten (10) estates and one (01) project in this sector as follows. Mokonje, Tombel, Mbonge, Malende, Kompina, Meanja, Matouke, Penda mboko, Sonne, Likomba, Missellele rubber project. There are three main factories namely, the industrial unit in Tiko, Mokonje and Penda mboko where the field product (crumbs/ latex) are transformed into semi finished products (RSS, TSR31, TSR10) for export sale. All estate is headed by estate managers while the industrial unit is headed by industrial managers.
- The Group Banana Department
The banana group is headed by a group banana manager (GBM). The group banana comprises of five estates as follows.
Mafanja, Mondoni, Benoe, Ndongo,Moquo estates and other services such as engineering, human resources, medical, marketing, logistic resource and accounting services. The objectives of this group are to produce quality banana for local and external market.
- The Group Palm Oil Department
The group oil palm department is headed by group oil palm managers (GOPM). There are seven (07) estates and one (01) project in the sector as follows. Benoe, Bota, Debunsha, Illoani, Mungo, Mondoni, Idinau and the Boa oil palm project. There are three oil mills at Mondoni, Illoani and Idinau where crops fresh fruit bunches (FFB) are processed into product for local.
Objectives of internship
The main objective of the internship was to compare theory and practical in the field of study. This is to say we are given the opportunity to better understand what we are taught in various course related to function of material science.

- To test our interest and aptitude in a particular career before permanent commitment are made.
Specific objectives
- To gain practical and industrial skills /experience in the field of study.
- To learn the ethics of the profession.
