Internship Carried Out At Kimbo Police Cooperative Credit Union (KIPCCUL)
Executive Summary
A micro finance is a financial institution that provides banking services to unemployed or low-income earners, or groups of people who need to have access to financial services. Ultimately, the goal of micro finance is to help low income earners to become self-sufficient by providing a way to save money, borrow money for investment. KIPCCUL is one of those financial institutions which offer distinguished services to the public through qualified and competent staffs.
During the month of internship that is (August – September), many activities were carried out in the operating unit of the credit union where all daily transactions takes place. In writing our report, we obtained information from two main sources; primary and secondary sources. Primary data was obtained from the enterprise documents and information gathered from the manager and questioning employees of the enterprise. Secondary data was gotten from internet, OHADA accounting notes, making use of related textbooks as well as personal conversation at the enterprise.
The report is arrange according to chapters and sections that is from chapter one to five. Chapter one talks about introduction that is introduction to internship as a whole like the background to internship, aims and objectives of the internship, operational definitions of terms. Chapter two is based on the presentation of the organisation KIPCCUL such as its historical background, aims and objectives of KIPCCUL, organisational structure and its products. Chapter three which deals with the activities carried out by the intern and impression, focus area, comparison between theory and practice. Chapter four is based on the evaluation of the internship that is weakness and strengths of the organisation, positive and negative experiences. Chapter five focuses on recommendations and conclusion. The final phase being the references and appendix.
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 background to the internship
The advancement in science technology in the world today has created a great impact on the many countries in the world including Cameroon. In other for Cameroonians to be advance in this modern science and technology, the government has allowed the creation of state universities and some higher institutes of learning like HIMS/HIBMAT/RHIMS Buea where citizens can be trained.
It is from this light that the Higher Institutes of Managements Studies was created to assist youth to acquire their professional training in several domain of work. It was created on the 03/10/08 under the Ministry of Higher Education (MINESUP) with opening decision number: No.08/0256/MINESUP of 03/10/08 and located in Mayor Street, Molyko, Buea, Cameroon.
It admits students with baccalaureates certificate or advance level certificate of its equivalent in the school and prepare its students for the higher national diploma HND exams also offers professional degree and master’s program in several specialties of which some are;
- Accountancy
- Banking and finance
- Transport and logistics
- Marketing
- Insurance
- Human resource management
- Project management
- Administrative assistance/executive
- Secretarial studies
- Software engineering
2.2 Aims and objectives of the internship
The internship helps to blend theoretical knowledge gained from the lectures in school to practical experience from KIPCCUL. The aims and objectives will be further listed below;
To begin with, interns or students should have an opportunity to enhance those skills, obtain the perspective of a work environment and benefits from a mentor or supervisor’s experience and advice.
To provide the student with the basic work experience in preparation for future careers.
Its help enhance your employability as you can showcase your work on your resume and develop the confidence of handling the specific duties effectively.
Internship expands your network, that is the relationship you build during internship by working with different people from different backgrounds, learn from their experience and attend meetings and conferences can act as a stepping stone to your next career opportunity.
Refining your skills meaning, each intern or student should act like a sponge absorbing information from people who have more experience than you because they know the ins and outs of the business world.
Developing professionalism.
Gaining a competitive edge. Knowing it’s a competitive job market out there and there are equally hundreds of candidates applying for the same role as you. As a result, internship helps provide you with experience and skills that will help employers notice you and equally see you as someone who has passion and who is been motivated to acquire experience outside of just college and university.

Bank reconciliation statement
A bank reconciliation statement refers to a document used to reconcile the balance of the bank statement from the bank with that of the bank account kept by the enterprise.
Standing order
A standing order is an instruction a bank holder gives to their bank to pay a set amount at regular intervals to another account.
Cheque
A cheque is a document that orders a bank to pay a specific amount of money from a person’s account to the person whose name the cheque has been issued.
Loan application form
A loan application is a form that is used to get information from a potential borrower to determine if a loan can be approved.
CHAPTER TWO
PRESENTATION OF THE ORGANISATION
This chapter is concerned on KIPCCUL. This chapter is divided into four sections. Section one which is about the historical background of KIPCCUL, the aims and objectives of the organisation, organisational structure (functional) and products of the organisation (goods and/or services).
Section one: general presentation of KIPCCUL.
In this section, we are going to know how KIPCCUL was created and how it has evolved in the light of time.
2.1 History and creation of KIPCCUL
In the struggle to satisfy financial needs of the population evaluating in the banking sector, law number 96/006 of the 14 of August 1992, which came to sustain law number 73/15 of 15 December 1973 gave the possibility to Cameroonian economic operators to create a micro finance.
In this light that KIPCCUL in the year 1969. It is the fruit of some sixteen police officers some time about 1969 as thrift and loans co-operative to serve the police personnel of the Bui and Donga Mantung Divisions of the North West Regions of Cameroon. It thereafter extended her common bond to people of all walks of life.
Structure of KIPCCUL.
KIPCCUL has greatly grown from its creation and today, it now has many branches littered in the main commercial cities of Cameroon, they are as follows;
