Executive Summary

This report is written based on an eight-week industrial placement and training. Industrial placement or an internship is both an educational and professional opportunity offered carried out by the student. Here, the student leaves the classroom and go out to the field in order to acquire useful knowledge which would enable them face challenges in the job market. I carried out my eight weeks industrial training from the 10th of July to the 18th of September 2016 at Better Planning LTD at Buea South West region Cameroon.

This internship was to enable the intern blend banking theory with practice and also a requirement for the partial fulfillment for the award of an HND in Banking and Finance. Better Planning LTD is a company that provides information technology services to the public and private institutions since 1999.

During my internship I became versed with the global banking software including its other related activities such as back office which include CRM, loan unit and control. One of the of Better Planning is that the company has encouraged technological advancement and developments on the part of the intern by teaching software like global banking software.

One of the weakness was the working space was very small and tight hence could not contain all the interns. Hence, I recommend that Better Planning LTD make provisions for bigger working space in order to solve the problem.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background to the Internship

An industrial placement or internship refers to both an educational and professional opportunity offered and to be carried out by students to help them acquire useful knowledge as to enable them face challenges of the job market. It is an educative period where the skills and abilities of the intern is being enriched. The essence of this activity is to prepare the intern not only theoretically but practically.

Hence this activity was to enable the intern blend banking theory with practice so as to be well prepared for the job market. I carried out an 8 weeks internship program at Better Planning LTD found in Buea in the south west region of Cameroon.

During the internship, the intern got to learn a lot about global banking software such as CRM and Accounting operations. This internship therefore enabled the intern to learn and gain a lot of experience in the field.

1.2 Aims and objectives of the Internship

The aim of the industrial placement is to gain relevant job experience and to allow students to apply what has taught in their field of specialty.

Objectives of the internship include:

1. To enable the intern acquire working experience.
2. To blend banking theory with practice.
3. To be acquainted with the working environment.

Bank deposit: This is a submenu of the teller dedicated to handle all money (deposit) made by the bank’s client into their respective accounts.

Bank withdrawal: This is a submenu of the teller dedicated to handle all cash payments (withdrawals) made by the teller form their respective accounts

Bank office: This is the part of the office made up of the accounting unit, operations unit (loan unit) audit and control units.

Customer relation management (CRM): This is the process of acquiring customers, distinguishing, serving and managing them

Cheque: This a document which is use by the customer of the bank to withdraw money from his or her account.
