IMPACT OF MOTIVATION ON CIVIL SERVICE PERFORMANCE IN THE SOUTH WEST REGIONAL CIVIL SERVICE IN BUEA
Abstract
This problem this study seeks to address is the impact of Motivation as a tool for enhancing employee performance in evaluating the driving force towards the general performance of the organization.
is study had as objective to assess firstly to identify motivation factors affecting employee performance, secondly to evaluate the relationship between promotion prospects and employee’s performance in the civil service, thirdly to evaluate the relationship between training and development and employee performance and finally to evaluate the relationship between working environment and employee performance in the civil service.
The research adopted an evaluative survey research design and was located in the civil service in Buea south-west region of Cameroon. The key respondents included managers, senior and junior members of staff of the civil service with a sample size of 15 participants. A purposive sampling technique.
Data was collected with the used of well-structured questionnaires developed by the researcher, for this study. chi square. Independent T-test analysis of the differences in motivational variables and employee performance. The performance variable used was; relationship with fellow tax payers, commitment to duty, ability to keep date lines, punctuality and capacity to produce results beyond targets.
The method of data analysis used was Chi Square method. The findings base on the relationship between promotion and Employee Performance an overall response rate 37(74.0%) was obtained, indicating that promotion raises employee’s performance.
Secondly, it revealed that there was a meaningful positive relationship of between promotion and employee performance with a response rate of 27 (54.0%). Thirdly, the findings showed that there is a definite significant relationship between training and development and employee performance, with a response rate of 26 (52.0%).
The study recommends primarily excellent remuneration package and makes sure that employees reward is done continuously. For the organizations to be performant, management should consider that employees are regularly promoted. Thirdly, the study recommends the provision of employee training on a continuous basis. Finally, management should improve the work environment for employees to boost performance.
