GPS + GSM ADVANCED VEHICLE TRACKING AND THEFT DETECTION SYSTEM
Abstract
The project proposes a GPS based vehicle tracking system that tracks the vehicle and sends the tracking data over through an SMS.
The microcontroller acts as the controlling head of the system.
When the system goes in Theft mode, the authorized user gets the alert message and user will be able to stop the vehicle engine immediately via sending SMS to the system with the ‘S’ Keyword.
The system includes a GPS modem that tracks the vehicle location in the form of latitude and longitude.
This location can be accessed via SMS that is being sent to the user by using SIM 800 GSM Module.
With the help of the latitude and longitude information SMS, the user will be able to locate the vehicle with a Google map application.
This system proves very beneficial for transport and travel companies as they can now keep track of their vehicles.

GENERAL INTRODUCTION
- Background and Context of the Study
Security, especially theft security of vehicle in common parking places has become a matter of concern.
An efficient automotive security system is implemented for anti-theft using an embedded system integrated with Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM).This proposed work is an attempt to design and develop a smart anti-theft system that uses GPS and GSM system to prevent theft and to determine the exact location of vehicle. The system contains GPS module, GSM modem, Atmega328 microcontroller, Max232, LCD, and other electrical components. GPS system track the current location of vehicle, there are two types of tracking used one is online tracking and other is offline tracking. GSM system is also installed in the vehicle for sending the information to the owner of the vehicle because GPS system can only receive the vehicle location information from satellites. The remote module has a GPS module on the moving vehicle which is used to obtain the present position of the vehicle and it is to be exchanged by GSM with the different parameters procured by the car’s information port.
As the SMS from the beneficial station is sent (the SMS sent is used to request the vehicle’s location), the location of the vehicle is sent by the system to the intended user in the form of SMS which contains the latitude, longitude and speed information of the vehicle. The vehicle can be trace using internet through the google map service. This framework helps the user to keep an eye on the vehicle. The user can lock or unlock his/her vehicle with the help of an SMS. This complete system is designed taking into consideration the low range vehicles to provide them with extreme security.
- Problem statement
These day’s vehicle robbery cases are higher than any other time, it calls for need to give a vehicle a superb security with the main objective to avoid theft. The vehicle’s default security measure guarantees the best to ensure security for your vehicle from various types of burglary cases. It is a vehicle security measure that offers fantastic insurance to your vehicle. However, this type of security couldn’t demonstrate to give complete security to the vehicle in the event of burglary. So, a more solid type of security makes utilization of an inserted framework focused around GSM innovation.
The outlined and created framework is introduced in the vehicle. Whether one is a holder of a single vehicle or in excess of 1000, VTS is an answer to spot, track and secure your vehicle. Combination of high-affectability GPS units into a framework has empowered these gadgets to work in different varieties of situations, for example, characteristic ravines, urban gulches, personal cars and much under substantial foliage. Once the vehicle’s engine has been stopped with the text command, the engine can’t restart without the consent of watchword. The location of the vehicle can be sent to the police authorities and reported as a theft case so that they can act and retrieve the stolen vehicle. The principle point of the present exploration work is to outline and create a shrewd and strong security framework for vehicles that can avert robbery and give data on mischances. The system being produced through the present work utilizes GPS and GSM innovation and can be made moderate so it can be utilized as a part of vehicles and even in bikes too.
- Objectives of the Study
In making the project successful, this research project and capstone intends to realize the following objectives:
3.1. General Objective
To design and implement a vehicle tracking system using Arduino with GSM + GPS and a message alert to notify the user of any theft case. By doing so, the user can then locate his/her vehicle using the location details sent by the GPS module to the user. These systems are commonly used by fleet operators for fleet management functions such as routing, security, dispatch and collecting on board information.
3.2. Specific Objective
The objectives of this project are in military, navigation, automobiles, aircrafts, fleet management, remote monitoring, remote control, security systems, etc.
- The system should be able to get the intended vehicle’s exact location and send the location details to the intended user at any given time.
- The system should be able to provide security measures which can shut down the engine of the vehicle when there is a scenario of theft.
- The system should be able to reverse the engine shut down if that is what the user wants.
