ASSESSING THE EFFECT OF STAKING AND PLANTING DISTANCE ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD PERFORMANCE OF CUCUMBER (CUCUMIS SATIVUS) IN BUEA
Abstract
Cucumber (Cucumis sativus) is one of the most important vegetable grown in most of the continents of the world because of its high vitamins contents, its low calories content and amazing effect on the human health.
The current study is to demonstrate the importance of planting distance (using 50by75 and 40by90) and appropriate staking regime(up-cycled and wooden staking) on cucumber based on it growth and yield and were evaluated in a randomized complete block design.
Growth parameters such as plant height, stem girth, number of leaves, leaf length, and number of flowers did not have any significant differences for the different plants (P > 0.05). This led to the conclusion that the planting distances of 50 by 75 had good performances for most of the parameters.
