THE EFFECT OF E-LEARNING ON THE STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT
Abstract
This study was designed to investigate the effect of e-learning on the students’ academic achievement in the Faculty of Education, University Buea. The objectives that were used for the study were; to examine the influence of punctuality on students’ academic achievement in secondary schools in the Buea municipality, to investigate the effect of teachers’ regularity on students ‘academic achievement in secondary schools in the Buea municipality, to examine the effect of syllabus coverage on students’ academic achievement in secondary schools in the Buea municipality and to examine the effect of teaching aids on students’ academic achievement in secondary schools in the Buea municipality.
The sample size was 120 students selected from three departments in the Faculty of Education in the University of Buea. The questionnaire was used to obtain information from correspondents and data were analyzed using percentages and frequencies.
The following results were obtained; the findings revealed that there is a strong positive correlation between network and students’ academic achievement in the faculty of Education, University of Buea, the findings also revealed that there is a moderate positive correlation between internet and students’ academic achievement in the faculty of Education, University of Buea, more so the findings holds that there is a strong positive correlation between infrastructures on students’ academic achievement in the faculty of Education, University of Buea, and lastly the findings reveal that there is a strong positive correlation between competences on students’ academic achievement in the faculty of Education.
Base on the findings it was recommended that amongst others that, teachers and education authorities should ensure that a modern and more standard network system is built on campus that can sustained e-learning, a more faster network service, it was also recommended that the University administrators should provide a steady wifi connection for internet service such that teachers and students can easily assess the internet,
More so it was recommended that school administrator should make provision of e-learning infrastructures such as computers, ultra-modern internet connection modem and the rest of them to facilitate easy study, and lastly it was recommended that government should increase training of teachers and organized e learning seminars which will trained teachers and give them the desired competence in e learning training.
