THE IMPORTANCE OF DISTRIBUTION STRATEGIES ON THE SUPPLY OF CABLE IMAGE LINE
Abstract
SWECOM PLC stands for South West communication PLC. SWECOM PLC is a provider of electronic communication and rebroadcasting services and has strongly developed its offering from cable television and has specialized in the triple play.
The main aim of this report is to define factors to reinforce the effect of distribution strategies on the profitability of the supply of cable image lines.
During my stay in SWECOW PLC as an intern, I was opportune to conduct some operations such as registering customers’ names and addresses, issuing receipts to customers I equally identified certain difficulties faced by the company such as they often have signal issues, delays in the payment of their staff and also the fact that certain customers do not want to pay their bills on time but later on be complaining about the signal issue.
I have to understand the needs, determine the weaknesses link to the distribution channel of their products in order to propose solutions for the establishment diagnostic.
Thanks to the different information gathered in the field and within the enterprise and as a result, I formulated some suggestions and propositions in order to boost the motivation who can contribute to ameliorating the situation.
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Definition And Objective Of Internship
The main objective of the internship is to blend theoretical knowledge gotten from class with professional knowledge on the field. For it to be achieved, we have to master the distribution strategies on the supply of cable lines.
Then understand the needs of customers, determine the weaknesses link to the distribution of cable lines in order to propose solutions for the problem diagnosed. Thanks to the different information gathered on the field and within the company, we had certain answers which hinder the distribution of cable lines.
As a result we formulate without pretending that this report is not perfect, some suggestions and propositions will boost the motivation of who can contribute to the amelioration of the relationship between SWECOM PLC and its customers and the availability of services.
1.2 Presentation Of The Company
SWECOM PLC is a provider of Electronic Communication and Rebroadcasting services and a market that is made up two main services that is the wireline and wireless. The wireless telecom segment includes mobile voice and mobile brand access while wireline include the fixed voice telephone and fixed broad band access.
SWECOM PLC is located and currently operates in five regions of Cameroon, namely the Littoral, Central, South, Southwest, and Northwest. It is planning to cover in the near future within two years the other five regions. Operations as a small cable operator under the name Cameroon cable since 1998 in Fako in the course of time merged with another company to become individual.
SWECOM PLC has strongly developed its offering from cable television and has specialized in the “TRIPLE PLAY” like TV HD +VOD +High speed, organizational, decision making, quick understanding of business processes channels like; movies, series, youth, sport and internet through a technological point of support: Fiber optics (FTTH, fiber to the home).
With a cable network last generation, SWECOM PLC sells services to two different types of customers: companies and private individuals. They established an IT department in 2008. SWECOM PLC commercialize service targeting two distinct categories of clients, company, individual and home its experience in the field of information communication technology(ICT) ensure the satisfaction of each and everyone.
SWECOM PLC is manage by the board of director elected from its member and company size of sixty (60) to two thousand (200) employees. The head office of SWECOM PLC is at Bonamoussadi Douala around Fin Goudron Bangue. SWECOM PLC services coverage area in Cameroon are Kumba, Limbe, Tiko, Kribi, Douala, Yaounde, Edea, Buea and Bamenda. Everyone is qualified to join SWECOM PLC if he or she accepts the condition of the company.

SWECOM PLC started as a cable distributor in Fako in 1998. It later extended its distribution to some other regions by 2005. However in 2008 SWECOM PLC established an information technology (IT) department and became an internet service provider (ISP) in Douala and in 2011 it extended to other regions.
To be a performance leader in delivering innovative and quality, bringing solutions and accessory services by 2025. Being a performance leader means we will achieve operational excellence, leading market share, industry-leading customer satisfaction and superior financial performance. SWECOM PLC is an institution and every home should have their products and services running on their space.
SWECOM PLC distribute more than 250 channels to their clients they equally have two kind of services which are internet and image. SWECOM’s PLC activities is the distribution of cable line to their customer they offer services like internet and TV channels.
The telecommunication services market is made up of two main services: Wire line and Wireless. The wireless telecom segment includes mobile voice services and mobile broadband access while wire line services include, among others, fixed voice telephony and fixed broadband access services. SWECOM PLC provides the following wire line services through its optical fiber network:
- HD Digital Cable Television.
- Video on Demand.
- Broadband Internet Connections.
- Sale of IP Addresses and information technology (IT) Accessories.
1.2.2 Brief Description of the Department and Their Functions
Organization’s Objective
The main objective of SWECOM PLC is to be a leader in the primary telecommunication company in Cameroon and in 2025 all homes and corporate bodies should have their services running. SWECOM PLC is organized in a hierarchical manner from top to bottom (see appendix).
- The goal of profitability.
- Decrease the level of joblessness.
- Remain the market leader.
- Extend its branches to all regional capitals in Cameroon.
The General Assembly
The general assembly involves all the major shareholders and board members in the company. These are physical and moral persons who both influence and are directly affected by the decisions made by SWECOM PLC.
Assembly meets after every year also for important meetings. These include the founding president, the administrative staff, the marketing force and the prospective clients.
The Board of Director (BOD)
It is made up of members elected by the general assembly. It directs the activities of the staff. Concerning sales the board of director is in charge of providing direction to the organization, supervise, evaluate and compensate the manager also they established a personnel policy manual which shows all what staff have to do in the company.
The Branch Manager
The branch manager is an executive who oversees the branch of each geographical location, he control and coordinate all the work being done by the staff. The branch manager maintains, manage and monitor all customers’ related operational issue.
Develop and execute branch sales strategy to maximize revenue. Thereby preparing financial statement and analysis for branches. He manages and supervises employees from different department.
Assistant General Manager
He is second in command after the manager and also assists the general manager of the day to day running of the business smoothly.
She execute tasks given to her and also act as secretary which she draws weekly schedule, assist the general manager with control of stocks, recovery, planning daily company operation. She performs the same task as the manager if his not around.
Marketing Department
Marketing is important because it helps sell your product or services, the bottom line of any business is to make money and marketing is essential channel to reach that end goal.
It explains that without marketing many businesses would not exist because marketing is ultimately what drives sales.
Finance Manager
The finance manager controls all amount of money received by cashier what is given out to sale agents and other staff and also what he deposit in the bank.
The finance manager has record of all transactions being made by the various cashiers of different geographical location to the bank so as to keep update about the money deposited and received from the bank.
The Cashier
The cashier receives money from clients by different mode of payments through cash, cheque, mobile money and cards. Register the money as received in the system.
The cashier issued receipts for all the transaction carried out. At the end of the day, the cashier produces declaration of daily transaction and a treasury situation showing the total amount of money made during the day.
Account Clerk
Accounting plays a vital role in running a business because it helps you track income and expenditure, ensure statutory compliance, and provide investors, management, and government with quantitative financial information which can be used in making business decisions.
In this department they have sub heads like chief accountant, billing manager, finance manager and the follow-up stock manager.
Human Resources Personnel (HR)
HR plays a key role in developing, reinforcing and changing the culture of an organization. Pay, performance management, training and development, recruitment and onboarding and reinforcing the values of the business are all essential elements of business culture covered by HR.
The HR is in charge of giving suspension letters to staff, accepting internship letters, job offering letter, permission letter and write down all the activities and programs needed in the organization, he equally monitors staff performance and attendance making sure that staffs get paid on time and correctly.
