DESIGN OF AN AUTOMATIC CHANGEOVER SYSTEM FOR THE MAIN GENERATOR IN CDC-TSD TIKO
Abstract
The Cameroon development corporation (CDC) which is the second largest employer in Cameroon after the state is a public establishment which acquires, develop, and operates extensive plantation of tropical crops namely banana, rubber, and oil palm in the Littoral and southwest region of Cameroon.
These crops are processed top certain levels. In such a corporation, electrical power is highly used in running the equipment in the corporation and for general electrification within the cooperation.
CDC-TSD faces some challenges such as power failure from ENEO since the main electrical supply comes from the national grid managed by ENEO. Another challenge is that CDC faces a problem of imbalance voltages across its low voltage 3phase lines, that is a situation in which the voltage in one of the lines goes low as compared to the others. When such happens, the technicians change the phase manually.
This report presents the design of an Automatic Changeover system which will eliminate the challenges faced in this unit without human intervention. Thus, reducing the risk involved in manual changeover system.
GENERAL INTRODUCTION
An internship is a professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical, work-related to a student’s field of study or career interest. An internship gives a student the opportunity for career exploration and development, and to learn new skills.
The agriculture sector in Cameroon is amongst the main occupations for over 70% citizens and contributes enormously to the country’s economy. In this light, CDC which is the second largest employer after the Cameroon’s government has numerous opportunities due to the various services classified under different departments that are responsible for its operations. One of such departments is the Technical Service Department based at Tiko which is responsible for Electrical engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and wood works tasks in the corporation.
This report is based on an Academic internship carried out in the CD-TSD Tiko from the 8th of September 2021 to the 10th of February 2022 supervised by Eng. Hencheal Atanga.
During this internship, much was benefited from the company in terms of practical and entrepreneurship. The company also benefited from this internship through the participation of the interns in the daily routine of the company. For improvements in future internship of this domain, recommendations are made in the last chapter of this work.
This report consists of three chapters in which chapter one talks about the description of CDC, vision, mission, organization and management, field of specialization and quality of assurance. Chapter two contains a summary of joining the company, activities carried out in the company, challenges faced and solution to the challenges. And chapter three gives the overall benefits of the internship, improving practical skills, improving leadership skills, and upgrading the theoretical knowledge.
