Abstract

The process of biometrics and manual attendance tracking is one of the highly regarded and researched for modifications and improvement. The long and tediousness of the manual attendance calls for its modification to ease the entire process.

In the past, attendance tracking used to be a manual process where managers or school instructors will call out the names of those present or where there is some technological advancement, the presence of a hardware tool such as a biometric module to record attendance. Both approaches are time consuming as the number of students or employees keep increasing or the module’s get bad due to physical attack or robbery.

Moreover, instructors may have to recheck the attendance register at the end for confirmation. As a result, we have proposed a smart geo-location based real-time attendance tracking system which is implemented on an android platform. Any organization has its specific location, which is fixed on the GPS. The different class venue locations are key to the attendance management in this project.

This application also makes use of the user’s mac address, which will help limit proxy attendance, as users do not only need to be logged in by email to track attendance, but need to login with their mobile device.

This system will go a long way to increase the output of both teachers and students as they can use the network for research purposes. In addition, the automated attendance system will save and maximize enough time for lectures to be carried out effectively.
