EFFECT OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ON THE FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF SOME SELECTED COMMERCIAL BANKS IN CAMEROON
Abstract
The objective of this study is to assess corporate social responsibility and its relationship to financial performance.
Specifically, the study seeks to examine the extent to which donation affect the financial performance, examine the extent to which health affect financial performance, investigate the extent to which environmental protection influence financial performance and to examine the extent to which education affect financial performance of commercial banks in Cameroon.
In order to achieve this objective questionnaire were issue to 50 banks using the random sampling method.
Data was analyzed using SPSS (21.0), where data was presented in the form of tables, bar charts and pie chart.
Inferential statistics such as correlation and regression analysis were conducted to test for the null hypothesis.
Findings show that there is a negative and insignificant relationship between donation and on the financial performance of banks in Cameroon.
The study also observed a positive and insignificant relationship between environmental protection and financial performance disclosure.
The study also found a negative and significant relationship between education and financial performance disclosure of commercial banks in Cameroon.
It was concluded that CSR and financial performance have a significant relationship with each other.
Thus, it was recommended that the government should through the regulatory authorities not to compel financial institutions to embark on corporate social responsibility.
