CHAPTER ONE

GENERAL INTRODUCTION

This internship is one organized by the Catholic University Institute of Buea as part of the school’s activities to help the students gain work experience while they are still following their studies. With the students passage through this internship, he /she will gain skills vital to his/her development in the chosen field of studies.

This experience also helps build helpful connections with your supervisors and other members of staff. With these connections, intern positions might turn to full-time positions if during the time spent in their locals was fruitful.

The internship was carried out in the locality of Sandpit for the construction of a building works of the Card construction company.

The main purpose of this paper is to describe my work experience in a Junior Year internship carried out from the 7th of April 2022 to the 5 of July 2022. I worked mainly as a technician on Building construction and all other activities related to it such as Plan conception, Architectural designs, Foundation, setting outs, reinforcements, constructions etc.

Initially, my task was aimed at the theoretical and practical concept of foundation designing consisting of the having an understanding of what a foundation is, types of foundation, foundation analysis.

Definition Of Internship.

The position of a student or trainee who work in an organization, sometimes without pay, in order to gain work experience or satisfy requirement for a qualification.

Aim And Objective Of An Internship

The aim of an internship is to gain good practical experience in the field of studies and know how to put all the theory taught in school into practice and to acquire professional skills.

1. Internship make it easier for us to learn and get acquainted with real working life
2. Internship helps us to improve on an establish knowledge in our individual career

During this period, students are assisted by skilled workers in the service where they go

The internship of this year begins from 7th April 2022 to 5 July 2022 and I effectively carried out mine in south region (BUEA)

Presentation Of The Company

Founded in the year 2016 but finally established in 2020, CARD (Construction and Architectural Designs) CONSTRUCTION is a mini-firm specializing in the construction and maintenance of structures and buildings. This company is owned by its director Mr. ROBERT EKWE MONOGI (A civil engineer).

With its headquarter in BUEA – Checkpoint, Molyko (Tel: 678-45-42-12) CARD CONSTRUCTION offers affordable services to the Public. CARD has succeeded with the total number of sixty-two workers since its creation. Added to this, the enterprise has managed to support itself with some construction machines like vibrators, water pumps, compactors, soil test machines and mechanical chisels.
