CAMPUS RECRUITMENT SYSTEM
Abstract
Campus Recruitment System aims at providing the compatibility to simplify the process of placement for students. This system consists of a student login, company login, and admin login. It is beneficial for college students, various companies visiting the campus for recruitment, and even the college placement officer.
The software system allows the students to create their profiles and upload all their details including their marks onto the system. The admin can check each student’s details and can remove faulty accounts.
The system also consists of a company login where various companies visiting the college can view a list of students in that college and also their respective resumes. The system allows students to view a list of companies who have posted for vacancies. The admin has overall rights over the system and can moderate and delete any details not pertaining to college placement rules.
Nowadays managing data manually is comparatively difficult than managing it with the help of technology. Technology refers to the use of knowledge practically so as to ease one’s work hence we emphasize making an application that can be used for the recruitment process.
For this, the students need to register themselves on the portal, filling in basic personal information and academic grade. On the other hand, the Training and placement officer uploads details and informs the hierarchy about the same.
The notification will be sent to the particular students through mail or SMS. The monthly timetable will be present on the home page for all the students to view. Also, the selected student’s data will be sent to the principal.
GENERAL INTRODUCTION
Nowadays we all are using the internet to do multiple things like booking, academic search, and blogging, apply for any job, etc. This system can be used as an application to manage student information to related placement.
The system handles student as well as company data and efficiently displays all this data to respective sides. This System does all work regarding placement like collecting student records, Authenticate and activate the student profiles, Notifying eligible students via automated E-mail messages, Check the number and percentage of placed and unplaced students.
Proper login with time and role-based secured access is provided to Placement Officer, Company, College staff, and students. Students logging should be able to upload their information in the form of a Resume.
The placement Officer can access, view information of the users, and prepare a schedule of all activities regarding placements. The company can give its own application procedure by providing links. College staff can see the registered students and their status.
Since the automated system is demanded now-a-days, educational infrastructures like colleges needed their manual system to function on computer systems. One such system which is of major importance is placement automation for campus recruitment.
This project is aimed at developing a web application for the Placement Department of the college. This system can be used as an application for the Placement Officer of the college to manage the student information with regards to placement.
Students logging in should be able to upload their information in the form of a resume. So, all the information will store the details of the students including their background information, educational qualification, personal details, and all the information related to their resume.
This system helps Company to access the student information with regards to placement. Computer-based information systems are designed to improve the existing systems. The company can notify the students about the recruitment online via sending e-mail.
This research project report is divided into three chapters detailed as follows:
Chapter one comprises an introduction and motivation of the study which explains the need of the study, literature review, the aim, and objectives of the study, and the project plan.
Chapter two comprises the methodology and the project design. Under this chapter, we look at the system block diagram and description, the system design, and a prototype of the system.
Chapter three consists of the implementation, tests, results, and conclusion.
CHAPTER ONE
AN OVERVIEW OF THE PROJECT
1.1 Introduction and Motivation
The Project titled “Campus Recruitment System” is one which helps out the HR Personal in the recruitment of new candidates to the company and helps the recruitment process as a whole. Campus Recruitment System (CRS) is a part of the Human Resource Management System that structures and manages the entire recruitment process.
This campus recruitment service system will primarily focus on the posting and management of job vacancies. However, this will be the initial step towards achieving the long-term goal of delivering broader services to support recruitment.
This will provide service to the potential job applicants to search for work opportunities and if they choose, they may be able to make an application online. It is planned that ultimately all vacancies will be posted online and that this site will offer employers the facilities both to post their vacancies online and to review and manage the resulting applications efficiently through the web with the help of the System.
This system will allow job providers to establish one-to-one relationships with candidates, by keeping in close communication with them throughout the application, interview, and hiring process. It even allows the candidates to track the progress of their applications. In other words, enables the employer to treat candidates like customers.
With the current system, some organizations have a problem in getting applications from jobseekers; this is because they lack a proper way to advertise their vacancies. Also, Shortlisting of candidates for interviews is also done manually thus wasting a lot of time.
Each and every process in the existing system is carried out manually. The college training and placement officer had to refer to all the records of previous years for even minor details. This used to be tedious and more time-consuming than it sounds.
It becomes more difficult when the number of students increases each passing year. There are other limitations of the existing system. In manual placement management system, all the task is done by human interventions. Therefore there is a maximum chance of errors. The files are not stored in hierarchical form. Thus searching for a particular file becomes a complex task.
Updating certain information is difficult and ambiguous which may lead to data redundancy due to the chances of duplication of information. Not every student is aware of the placement updates by the training and placement officer of the college, therefore they may lose an opportunity to grab a seat for a job interview.
In the last few years, the manner of recruiting new personnel has changed drastically. Although the basic recruitment perception remains the same, the technology used has had a remarkable impact on how the recruitment process is accomplished [1]. Recruitment involves the set of practices and activities undertaken by an organization in order to identify and draw prospective employees[2].
Organizations employ different strategies to find qualified candidates like posting in newspapers, using the Internet, posting on billboards, and recruiting on campuses. Previously, organizations relied on only the manual method of recruiting candidates and conducting examinations and interviews for them, which could be time-consuming.
In the last decade, the use of the internet has significantly changed the face of human resource recruitment and the ways organizations think about recruiting methods [3]. This recent change in the way of doing recruitment started during the mid-90s, particularly, Dikshastated that “the recruitment industry’s future is on the net”[4].
Recruiting the right employees can be difficult at times, but the rewards of a well-constructed strategy are vast because efficient recruiting is the foundation upon which any talent management program is built [5].
There are different strategies that industries have adopted in reaching and selecting competent candidates for their job opportunities. One of the strategies is Campus recruitment; where the recruitment process is conducted within educational institutions or in a commonplace to provide jobs to students in the stage of completing a program and to select students who are eligible for internship programs.
Employers from diverse industries visit campuses at least once every year for recruitment purposes, which are carried out manually. This manual approach posed some avoidable problems, which include inadequacy of keeping recruitment information and activities, which is paper-based, traveling risk for industry team to visit the institutions, manual method of conducting aptitude test, which might not be objective, and inadequate follow-up on the recruitment status of applicants. Therefore, in order to avoid these limitations, some institutions have adopted the online recruitment process.
Online recruitment also known as e-recruitment is the type of recruitment that is carried out on the web. Over the years, technology has helped in advancing the recruitment process. E-recruitment has been described as the selection of potential candidates applying for a job through the Internet (external) and Intranet (internal). The Internet first appeared as a recruiting tool in the mid-1990s CORE Metadata, citation, and similar papers at core. ac.UK
Provided by Covenant University Repository and was hailed by the popular media as the driver behind a “recruiting revolution” due to the benefits it could bring to recruiters. Companies now rely on e-recruitment in order to attract the right candidate, have a larger applicant pool available, as well as save time and money. Both companies and applicants find the approach cheaper, faster, and potentially more effective.
Some universities have adopted the idea of e-recruitment to automate their campus recruitment programs and have developed a website where different industries can post their vacancies, which students in the school can view and apply for.
An example is the Liberal Arts Career Services site owned and managed by the University of Texas. Also, we have the Smart Recruitment Manager. Smart Recruitment Manager is a highly configurable, scalable, and user-friendly web-based applicant recruitment management system.
Most schools make use of a recruiting job posting service like NACElinkto [5] to manage their campus and on-site recruiting program. The NACElink network is the result of an alliance among the National Association of Colleges and Employers, the Direct Employers Association, and Simplicity Corporation, which is a national recruiting network serving the needs of colleges, employers, and job candidates. HuskyCareerLink is a web-based recruiting system, which allows the Center for Career Development to manage many of the recruiting-related activities offered to students.
None of these platforms belong to the Nigerian context. Also, none of the aforementioned platforms has made a provision for online aptitude tests, meaning that they may largely employ the manual process of conducting aptitude tests. This scenario presents existing gaps that need to be filled as far as the implementation of university’s online recruitment portal is concerned.
The major aim of campus placement is to identify talented and qualified professionals before they complete their education. It provides employment opportunities to students who are pursuing or in the final stage of completing the course.
This process reduces the time for an industry to pick the candidates according to their needs. It is a cumbersome activity and hence majority of the companies find it difficult to trace the right talent. Many students do not understand the importance of placement training that is being imparted, whether it is aptitude training or soft skills. They show the least interest in this due to various factors viz., projects, assignments, or more of activities loaded by the colleges as part of their curriculum thinking that it is not useful.
It is the responsibility of the companies training on placement to make the students equipped on all aspects of career development along with creating a very good impact in them which makes them feel every minute they spend in the placement training session is worth being there and will help them in getting placed in their dream companies.
1.3.2 Objectives
- To provide recruitment to students
Student recruitment should be recognized as a key component in the sustainability and success of an institution and must be a prime responsibility of an institution’s strategic plan. Equipping the Training and placement office to recruit the qualified students and the right number of students is critical to the long-term sustainability of an institution, and IT plays an important role
2. Planning and organizing various Placement drives on campus
Students should use the fair in order to grab the opportunity to understand what companies are looking for in candidates and what skills are vital for their future roles. Career/Job Fairs are a valuable opportunity to hone networking skills and gain practice in articulating their value to a prospective employer.
3. Provides Resume building services
Student can tailor their resume by selecting wording that best fits each job they apply for. Crafting the resume by the students in order to apply for their dream jobs.
