ASSESSMENT OF THE LEVEL OF AWARENESS OF THIRD-PARTY MOTOR INSURANCE IN DOUALA
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to assess the level of awareness of third-party motor insurance in Douala and evaluate the implications of this awareness on the sale of insurance policy.
The study was guided by the following research questions: what is the level of awareness of third party insurance among motorist in Douala? How does premium rate of third-party motor insurance affect the sale of insurance policy in Douala? What are the implications of risk perception of third-party motor insurance on the sale of insurance policy in Douala? The main objective of this study was to assess the level of awareness of third-party motor insurance among drivers in Douala and examine its implications on the sale of insurance policy. To attain this objective, this study formulated three hypotheses and a questionnaire from the literature review.
The mixed-methods approach research design was used as it targeted vehicle owners and drivers in Douala. Stratified random sampling was used to select a sample of 384 vehicle owners and drivers. The research instruments employed in this study were questionnaire and interview. Data were presented in tabular form for easy understanding. In analysis of data, simple percentage (%) method was used for easy understanding.
To test the hypothesis, findings revealed that since the value for Feal (5.565)> P (0.000), we reject Ho, the independent variables have significant impact on the dependent variable (sale of insurance policy), and this is statistically significantly at the 5% level of significance. Thus, the overall model is well fitted. This indicates that the level of awareness of third party motor insurance has a significant impact on the sale of insurance policy.
