AN INTERNSHIP REPORT CARRIED OUT AT THE KAMSUE EST BUEA
Focus area: DOMESTIC INSTALLATION
CHAPTER ONE
Presentation Of Company And It’s Main Activities
The KAMSOU EST is an electrical and rewinding establishment which was created in 1999 by MR KAMSEU NOUMBOUM NJOUKOA, he started running it in Muea where he was managing it by himself from 1999-2008. Due to some local challenges faced by him, he relocated to Bomaka where he was there for 4years from 2008 to 2012 which the company was not really improving.
He made one of his friends who was not also stable and they had to join to work together at Clerks quarters where he works with him for 5 years from 2012-2019. In 2019, he decided to settle back alone due to the little finance he had saved. Consequently he had to relocate to UB Junction where he currently runs the company.
Mr. Kamseu obtained his Baccalaureate in GTHS Ombe in 1966 and later went to Limbe where he learnt rewinding of induction motors and maintenance of both industrial and domestic installations. Mr. Kamseu also went out of Cameroon like in Nigeria to boast his working skills and knowledge.
Due to customer satisfaction and remarks, Kamseu EST is one of the best Electrical and Rewinding establishments in Buea. He does not only limit work at the level of his company locality but also goes out for the maintenance of industrial motors in industries and factories and even in residence for domestic wiring. Currently, KAMSEU EST BUEA has two apprentices that work under his supervision.
I.2 Description of the department of focus
In Kamseu EST, there are basically two establishments namely the rewinding/installation of industrial motors and domestic installation. Based on my focus of study which was on domestic installation Kamseu EST was capable of starting from the first stage till the end as far as installation was concerned. In case of installing we ensured the proper functioning, protection both on humans and equipment and general presentation of work “clean work”. The manager of the company always ensured a safe working environment with the availability of all necessary working tools. Under my department of focus so many things were carried out like:
- Chiseling: this is a process whereby walls of a building are broken so that the next step can be carried out which is the passing of pipes through the wall for either sockets or switches to the junction box and to the panel box.
- Fittings: here, cups are being fitted at the point of sockets and switches according to their corresponding dimensions. It also requires the fitting of junction boxes and distribution panels at its own dimensions.
- Passing of Cable (Cabling): in this stage different sizes of cables are being sent to its corresponding point which in general 1.5 mm2 of cable size is used for lighting while 2.5 mm2 is used for socket circuit, 4-6mm2 are used for supplying cables and special sockets like electric cookers, washing machines.
- Earthing: In domestic installation earthing is a type of protection done to protect the installation from lighting and leakage current. Earthing is the connection of specific parts of an installation to the ground to create a part for the discharge of electrical energy which takes place by transferring charges directly to the earth through low resistance.
- Connection: this involves the connection of JB and the DB. There is a big difference with the connection done in the JB and DB. In the JB connectors are used to link up the cables to form a closed circuit while in the DB protective devices are used for the protection of the installation.
Here fuses or circuit breakers are used according to the circuit to be protected. For lighting, protective devices like circuit breaker are used of the rating of 10A and for sockets 16-20A are used while 32A above are used for specials sockets. The installation is finalized by mounting of sockets, switches and lamp holders as well as other necessary equipment.
