ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE AMONG THE VULNERABLE GROUPS IN CAMEROON
Abstract
The world’s vulnerable population revealed that the most vulnerable individuals live in developing nations, with just a small proportion of the population living in developed economies being very vulnerable in comparison to the poorest in developing countries.
Many individuals in low and moderate income nations across the world suffer from poor health care, which leads to a high death rate. Among them are largely vulnerable people, such as those with physical disabilities and orphans.
The study’s major goal was to look at access to health care among these disadvantaged groups in Buea and Tiko Health Districts in Fako Division in Cameroon’s. The sampling strategy utilized was both intentional and convenient. The sample size was 385 people. For data collection, a questionnaire and an interview guide were employed.
SPSS MS Excel was used to analyze the data, and the findings were shown on pie charts, bar charts, and frequency tables. According to the data, people with disabilities have substantially less access to primary health care than is required by law. It was also discovered that orphans’ health care experiences impact their access to healthcare.
Based on the findings it is recommended… policy development, practice consideration and future research that could lead to more equitable access to health care. Importantly, there should be the need for health policies that aim to address health problems especially with the vulnerable people, considering all the dimensions and their interactions. In terms of practice, the need to provide in-service training to healthcare providers on how to enhance their communication skills should be considered in order to better attend to this sector.
