A ONE-MONTHINDUSTRIAL PLACEMENT AT CAMEROON DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION(CDC) BOTA-LIMBE
Executive Summary
The main aim of this internship was to enable the intent to blend theory and practical in other to prepare the intent for the job market. The intent got to know the background of CDC which started in 1947, with a capital of 53.5 billion FCFA and is owned by the state.
The intent also got to know the aims and objectives of CDC which is to purchase, create, administer, operate and develop all undertakings in the field, CDC produce three main crops which are Rubber, Banana and Palm oil for home and foreign consumption. the intent had the opportunity to woke with eight departments of the organisation which are the human development service, Industrial relation service, salaries office, human resource main office, legal affairs service, communication relation service, social insurance service and property management service which the intent gathered so much knowledge.
The main focus of the intern was on verification of remuneration after which the intern was able to compare what was thought in class and what was actually going on in the field.
There were lots of similarities between theory and practical in the area of calculation of wages and salaries and the communication service. in CDC In the course of the internship the intent, there were some evaluations whereby the strength, weaknesses, opportunities and treats of the organisation.
The intent also came across some positive experiences such as crosscheck workers’ salaries, signing of important documents and negative experiences such as heavy rainfall, and congestion of intents in a single service. Lastly, the intent recommend that the organisation should improve on stationary, and payment of salaries on time to keep work going smoothly. Never the less the period one month spent in CDC was a blessing.

1.1 Background to the internship
Internship is an important, professional aspect of training in the University of Higher Institute of Management Studies (HIMS) Buea. It is intended to give a blend between theories and practical. That is to be able to put what you know in practice. Some important aspects of internship are as follows.
It provides the intent with real life experience and exposure as this will enable the intent to get first-hand knowledge of work experience, internship also provides the intent with the opportunity to know more about themselves that is to know their capability and ability to do what was thought in class.
More so, being an intent gives you the opportunity to build strong connections with the companies’ professionals that is beneficial to your career and internship also boast up your curriculum vitae.
Transition in to a full-time position most employees are always seeking to add value to their organisation. During internship students have the opportunity to show case their talents that can secure employment for them after graduation from the university.
Thus, most student use this opportunity to secure employment for themselves after graduation as most companies are involve with campus recruitment of the best students in departments in which need be found.

- Student will have a reflection and evolution process at the conclusion of the internship.
- Internship is most successful when the student, university and employer all share the responsibility in making it a valuable experience.
- It involves a supervision component that is mentoring and educational.
- It contributes to the students personal and professional development through challenging work assignment.
- Planned and controlled through consultation with the department or university so as to fit an undergraduate experience.

The aim of an internship is to give the students an opportunity for career exploration and development, which makes an intent to perform what they know and to learn new skills to upgrade or add to what they already know. It offers the employer the opportunity to bring new ideas and energy in to the work place, develop talent and potentially build a pipe line for future full-time employees.

The objective of an internship is to provide students with an opportunity to put in to practice skills they have learned while in school. In addition, the students should have an opportunity to enhance those skills obtained in the perspective of a work environment and benefit from a mentor or supervisors experience and advice which will help the intent perform well when given a specific task to accomplish.

To the students, an intern is anyone undergoing internship. Usually, they are students aspiring to acquire professional skills in their field of study in other to get the practical perspective of an occupation and posture to work along the economic market, which helps them in decision making process on the career of choice. internship helps in in building strong relationships with professionals as well as it enhancing a communication network, and helps in learning new skills to enrich your endeavour to achieve what you desire.
To an employer, by accepting interns in their organisation, fresh ideas will be injecting into the department and why not the company as the intents new and effective solution for short term projects (appointing interns for assistance and management task). Utterly pre-professionals to assist with invent and work also helps in promoting the image of the organisation to the general public.
To the university, internship makes the name of the university to be well known to the general public as new institutions are rising every day. It also helps the university to know if their student are able to practice what they were thought in the class room.
Internship also help the students of their institution in partial fulfilment of the Higher National Diploma and in reading different reports, it widens the knowledge of any lecturer or person reading it which ideas may be taken from to help the university.
Historical background of Cameroon Development Corporation
The Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC) is a public establishment incorporated in 1947 to acquire, develop and operate extensive plantations of tropical crops. The Corporation’s issued share capital is 53.5 billion FCFA. CDC is 100% state owned.
The Corporation grows three main tropical crops namely Rubber, Oil Palm and Banana, in the Littoral and South west Regions. From these crops, it produces semi-finished rubber, finished Palm oil, Palm kernel and top-grade edible banana for local and export markets. The Corporation also provides Environmental and Social Amenities to workers and their dependents, Government Officials and neighbouring villages.
The CDC carries out activities which go beyond her scope in a bid to better the living conditions of her employees, their families, and the community at large. Some public utility services that the Corporation provides include potable water, boreholes in the Matouke Rubber Project and Boa Plain, free electricity, recreational and toilet facilities also make up this package. Road maintenance is the duty par excellence of the Technical Service Department throughout the Corporation.
Education wise, the CDC has put in place a well-coordinated strategy to ensure the education of kids living in and around her plantations. Children and dependents of CDC workers on the one hand and those of neighbouring communities on the other hand benefit from the savoir faire of teachers employed by CDC. Also, the construction and renovation of most of these schools are funded and executed by the engineering’s and technician of the Corporation.
To further empower the population, the C.D.C has put in place a small holder scheme which is operational in the Oil Palm and Rubber sectors. It is a win–win partnership through which hundreds of farmers produce and sell to the C.D.C at the price that prevails at the time of the transaction. The scheme empowers farmers financially and educates them on how to obtain high quality yield, improve productivity and maximize their income on a sustainable basis.
The C.D.C. also implements a huge scale of activities, to achieve continuous improvement on the healthcare of employees. With two hospitals, seventeen clinics, and sixty-eight Aids posts spread across the Corporation, medical services are provided to workers, their dependents, and the general public.
