THE EFFECT OF CRISIS MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES ON THE FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF SMALL AND MEDIUM SIZED ENTERPRISES IN KUMBA MUNICIPALITY
Abstract
The aim of this research was to examine the effect of crisis Management Strategies on the financial performance of SMEs in Kumba municipality. The study was guided by 2 specific objectives which were to identify the effect of reactive strategy on the financial performance of SMEs in Kumba municipality; and to assess the effect of adaptability on the financial performance of SMEs in Kumba municipality.
The study adopted a descriptive research design. The primary data used for this study was obtained directly from respondent SMEs within the Kumba municipality. Data was collected from a sample of 200 respondents through the administration of structured questionnaires. The data was analysed by using the multiple regression technique.
The research finding shows that both Reactive and Adaptive strategies have a positive and significant effect on the financial performance of SMEs in Kumba municipality. Therefore, the study concludes that crisis management has a significant effect on the financial performance of SMEs in Kumba municipality.
Based on this, the study recommends that Small and medium sized Enterprises should lay more emphasis on adaptive and reactive measures that will enables them minimise economic loss and increase resilience of their businesses during crisis moments.
