A ONE MONTH INDUSTRIAL PLACEMENT AT SOLEX BUEA
Executive Summary
This report is based on an industrial training session carried out at Solex branch Buea. This Organization is responsible for the transportation of mails and parcels both national and international. Not only that but also, they carry out operation of customers, they carry out clearance, provide customer services, the storage of customer goods; they also carry out cross docking activities.
The objective of this organization is to satisfy its customers by ensuring that their goods are transported safely to its customers in good condition. The organization is divided into several sections, regional department, commercial department and the cashier. It should be noted that the Solex branch Buea is made of one pack.
This is because it is a new branch and further development are to be made. This one pack still carries out all the functions of the Solex company. At the commercial department, the intern was taught on how shipment is been receive. Furthermore, the cashier service deals with customers beings welcome and assisted in the filling of the transport form and giving out information on the present position of the parcel that goes out of the country.
Moreover, the strength of this company has brought in more customer which has led to an increase in customer trust. This has also brought a positive impact in the company. It however has some weaknesses such as lack of security. Solex branch Buea works with some companies or institutions such as Societe General Cameroon (S.G.C), World Health Organization (W.H.O), Mobile Telephone Network (M.T.N), SOWEDA, BACM.
More so, with the outbreak of covid19, the organization of Solex has taken upon itself some measures such as providing sanitizers, hand wipes to customers in order to reduce the spread of covid19. The customer service department ensured that clients as well as members of staff would not be crowded in a particular section.
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background to Internship
Internship is the process of working as an assistant to gain practical experience and skills in the occupation. In order to expose the student to the actual requirement for the complement of B. Tech, under the Higher Institution of Management Studies (HIMS).
Internship is an opportunity to observe, learn and understand the corporate culture, acquire knowledge and skills in the respective field, which helps the student best in further development and it is carried out the organization which best suits the area of specialization. Internship provides the opportunity to understand how the knowledge acquired through the lectures, group decisions and formal studies is applied in real working situations.
It is the best way of knowledge gaining as it provides experience similarly the assigned responsibilities during the internship period helps to enhance the interpersonal and communicative skills and also boost the confidence level.
Internship is a deliberative preparation for a rewarding career. It is beneficial because it helps develop the professional aptitude, strengthen personal character and provides a greater door to opportunities. As a B. Tech student of logistic and transport management, the courier service is a good option for internship, courier agency plays an important role in modern economy, courier agency are institutions that are involved in movement of mails and parcels.
Courier services are good option for raising financial status of the nation, as it adds more value to services even though they were interns and not employer in place of the organization, but they are giving equal opportunity to work as if they are employees. The interns do what the staff of the organization has to do. However, they do not have obligation of authority over anything.
The intern did her internship at Solex Branch Buea, the intern was giving the opportunity to observe and to learn the functionality of the branch and the activities such as delivery of mails and parcels both nationally and internationally and many other prestigious services like issuing of invoice and receipts.

The aims of carrying out internship is to bridge theory with practical. The practical or working experience is going to have an impact on the student in every aspect, be it in the behaviour, life style and relationship management.

This internship is to fulfil a requirement of B. Tech certificate to which it account to a significant percentage of the final assessment.
Internship is to develop the required skills and techniques directly applicable to the field of transport and logistics.
Internship is also to develop the altitude necessary to display worker customer relationship, this is very essential in the success of a business.
It enables the intern to learn how to work with client, colleagues and handle conflict in an organization among subordinates to achieve team work.
The intern acquires the skill as a transport agent to be able to identify the differences and similarities between theories and practical. In due course, preparing the intern for the job market.
Internship serves as the first step to the student’s marketability of his or her employee potential. Thereby, minimizing the chances of being unemployed upon graduation. Experience from the past has shown that internship program is often called back to be on probation for sometimes after which they grab full employment.

Logistic refers to the process of planning implementing, controlling the effective and efficient flow of storages of goods and services.
Cross docking is a supplier or manufacturer are distributed directly to the customer.
Solex Branch Buea hub refers to where the parcel is being checked.
Packing list that is the items listed for shipping in a package, giving the quantity, description and weight of the contents and is prepared by the shipper and sent to the receiver.
Forwarding is the coordination and shipment of goods from one place to another through a single or

PRESENTATION OF THE ORGANIZATION
2.1. Historical Background of Solex
Solex is the story of a young Cameroonian who has proven himself in product and service and distribution companies, food industry decided to provide economic operators then inundated express delivery worries, a Cameroonian miracle solution miracle because, for a company to settle in Cameroon, a country in development with proven limits like all countries at the same level of development on the road, rail, and air network.
Solex therefor saw the light of the day in January 2007 and initially had barely ten employees and is located in the three main cities of Cameroon namely, Yaoundé the political capital, Douala the economic capital and Bafoussam a crossroad city in the West.
Solex, not to say solution express is chosen because of the 50-60 generation knows the famous Solex bike which slipped through all roads and tracks which symbolizes the irony of fate, the speed of the times. Solex has order to tie up technological development chosen to have a first name “Le TGV de l’expedition”. Solex, the expedition Tav has therefore made its way after a successful launch in the main cities named above, relying on Amazon, that is to say young girls with “scooteurs” for shuttler in the city.
Quickly the network expanded after 5th year. Solex employs nearly 200 people directly and nearly 100 subcontractors. Solex focuses on three main aspects their vision, their mission and their goal. The vision is to become highly in a competitive environment the first company in the field of express delivery in Cameroon. Solex has a 50% corporate market share and a regular user base of 100 customers.
National moving, Solex takes care of the packaging, handling, transport by road and delivery of personal effects of individuals or companies on the national territory with all the guarantees of security during the whole trip.
From the onset, Solex has ensured the transportation and delivery of parcels and goods in 1 or 5 days to all cities and the smallest municipalities in the world. The maximum authorized weight is 30kg to 500kg per shipment. Air long, money transfer requires no administrative formalities to be completed except the simple presentation of your national identity card.
