Abstract

This project titled: Conceptual design of administrative block/library case study Fomic Buea is aimed at providing a comfortable dwelling for students and to design and construct engineering students a structure that can serve as a reference point for feature projects in terms of safety, comfortability, durability and outlook.

In fact the need for security and comfort has made buildings one of the most important of our life, without which, life will become boring, consequently and threatening, sickness, and premature death will be the answer in these generation. As matter of fact this administrative block occupies the total surface area of 260m2.

Not with standing, buildings are characterized in different forms according to their uses. In my case, I’m proposing a structure to FOMIC BUEA in regard to the rapid growing population and due to it, national relation and also international which the present situation is unable to handle. For this structure to be realized, the following must be done.

–           The need for structure.

–           The soil test.

–           The architectural drafting.

–           Topography (survey).

–           Quantities and cost of materials

–           Estimating and planning of the project.

CHAPTER ONE

GENERAL INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of Study

In order to remedy this situation, a G + 2 structure is proposed to improve both the staffs and students of the school and to create a good study environment, this structure shall occupy the surface of about 773m2, This project details the study on soil, architectural drafting, designing of structural element (beams, columns, and floor and footings).

NB the soil test results used in this project was not practically carried out by the researcher; it was obtained from an oil soil test from the same environment

1.2 Problem Statement

The block is constructed so as to improve the following services;

• Administrative services
• Staff rooms for lectures
• Library for students
• Multimedia lap for students and teachers
• Reprography room for both students and teachers
• Toilets for teachers

Looking at what is found today in the fomic one can say with no word of contradiction that the lack of administration block makes the school not up to standard. To add more light on this, the lack of this administrative offices, library, multimedia lap creates lots of distraction as the is too much movement within the same space, which make things very difficult for both the teachers and students as well.

Imagine using the same spaces for teaching and to carry out administrative works too, there will be lots of movement which is not advisable for a staff to work in the same space as the student.

1.3 Aims and Objectives of the Study

1. Provide a durable and less costly full structure.
2. Provide a structure that will give comfort to it inhabitance
3. To reduce congestion
4. Provide a structure that will increase the aesthetic characteristics of the environment
5. To conceive and design an administrative block that will contain a staff room and a student reading hall
