UB NAVIGATION APP
Abstract
This project report outlines the development of a navigation app for the University of Buea campus using Android Studio and Google Maps API. The app is designed to help students and visitors navigate the school campus by providing real-time directions from one location to another. The app includes features such as location-based services to help users find their way around the campus.

CHAPTER ONE
LITERATURE REVIEW
1.1 Problem Statement
Navigating through a large and complex school campus can be a challenge for students, teacher, and visitors, particularly during peak hours when congested pathways and crowded buildings can lead to wasted time, frustration, and even safety concerns.
Therefore, there is a need for a comprehensive and user-friendly navigation app that can provide accurate and up-to-date maps, directions, and information to help users navigate through the campus efficiently and safely. Such an app can improve the overall experience of the users, enhance the efficiency of the campus operations, and promote a sense of community and engagement among the campus population.
1.2 Purpose
The purpose of building a navigation App for University of Buea is to improve the overall experience and accessibility for students, staff, and visitors who may be unfamiliar with the layout of the school. A navigation system can help individuals easily locate specific classrooms, departments, offices, and other facilities within the school, reducing the time and effort required to find their desired destination.
By providing clear and concise directions, a navigation system can also help to reduce confusion and frustration, particularly for new students and visitors who may feel overwhelmed by the size and complexity of the school. 1.3 Background
The initiatives that lead to me building a navigation app for the University of Buea was due to students feedback
Students expressed frustration with navigating the school campus, which led to the need for a navigation app. This frustration may stem from a variety of factors, such as:
- Complex campus layout: The school campus may have a complex layout with multiple buildings, wings, and levels, making it difficult for students to find their way around.
- Inadequate signage: The school may have inadequate signage or maps, making it difficult for students to locate specific classrooms, offices, or other facilities.
- New students: New students may have difficulty navigating the campus, especially during the first few weeks of school when they are still getting familiar with the environment.
- Time constraints: Students may have limited time between classes or activities, making it important for them to quickly and efficiently navigate the campus.
- Language barriers: Students who are not native speakers of the language of instruction may have difficulty understanding signs and directions, making it important to have an app with multilingual support.
By addressing these challenges, a navigation app can help students navigate the school campus more easily and efficiently. The app can provide turn-by-turn directions.
