ASSESSMENT OF BOKO HARAM MENACE ON AGRO-PASTORAL ACTIVITIES IN THE FAR NORTH CAMEROON
Abstract
The study is an appraisal of Boko Haram’s insurgency in the agricultural sector of the Cameroon business environment. A time series analysis research method was adopted, while descriptive statistics and questionnaires were used to analyses the secondary data after the insurgency.
The result of the findings showed that agricultural valued added little to agricultural value because even before the insurgency, there had been traces of hunger as a result of law agricultural produce before Boko Haram disruption though because of the presence of the Boko Haram in the Far North, things became worse since there was a mass destruction of farm lands which help to reduce the (GDP) Gross Domestic Products and has reduced during this period of insurgency.
Again, grazing farm lands were also destroyed which led to the reduction of cattle. Far reaching consequences were more on the inhabitance of Far North since, due to the insecurity caused by the Boko Harm many of them could not go for farming or to the markets to sell and or buy food this hindered the rate of agricultural growth and also led to starvation.
Based on the findings, the study recommends that Government should take legal and justifiable action to ensure that the ills caused by Boko Haram to the agricultural sector are arrested and farmers encouraged with better incentives to go back to farm.
More so, the Government should employ vigilante groups in the area giving them powerful and sophisticated weapons to always keep the environment secure. Lastly, the education sector should also be considered, modern educational facilities should be given to the students of the North Region. all those who are school dropped out because of the insurgency should be encouraged to go back to school.
