The Cameroonian Ministry of Public Health has adopted and executed the national strategy plan for digital health 2020-2024 in order to use information and communication technology (ICT) for health care delivery.
This vision was inspired by the World Health Assembly in 2018, which recognized the potential of digital technologies to assist promote universal health coverage and other SDG targets. As a result, ICT is required in the management of common health challenges such as Malaria, vaccine-preventable illnesses, neglected tropical diseases, the latest Corona virus disease (COVID-19), and HIV.
The general objective of this study was to assess the use of information and communication technologies in enhancing healthcare delivery for HIV patients.
Methods: This was a descriptive and cross-sectional research with 388 participants chosen at random from among health staff and HIV patients at health institutions participating in HIV management (public and private).
A systematic questionnaire was used to collect data on socio-demographics, knowledge and usage of ICT technologies, and associated problems. To summarize data, descriptive statistics were utilized, and cross-tabulation followed by Cramer’s V Test was performed to examine relationship between variables.
Results: Most health personnel and HIV patients do not know how to use ICT platform 78 (62.4%) [95% CI; 53.3-70.9], 156 (59.3%) [95% CI; 53.1-65.3] respectively and want to be trained on apps like DHIS2 tool 29 (23.2%) [95%CI; 16.1-31.6] and Dama 23 (18.4%) [95% CI; 12.0-26.3]
