URBAN FACILITIES AND THEIR EFFECTS ON THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF FORM FIVE STUDENTS SECONDARY SCHOOL IN THE BUEA
Abstract
This study was designed to investigate Urban Facilities and its Effects on the Academic Performance of Form Five Students Secondary School in the Buea. The objectives that were used for the study were; To investigate the extent to which public libraries influence student’s academic performance in secondary school in the Buea Municipality,
To find out the extent to which national parks influence student’s academic performance in secondary school in the Buea Municipality, To examine the extent to which museums influence student’s academic performance in secondary school in the Buea Municipality and To find out the extent to which monuments influence student’s academic performance in secondary school in the Buea Municipality.
The sample size was 160 students selected from three secondary schools in Buea municipality. The questionnaire was used to obtain information from correspondents and data were analyzed using percentages and frequencies.
The following results were obtained; public libraries, national parks, museums and monuments has a positive role on students’ academic performance. Based on the above result, the following recommendations were obtained; teachers, counselors, and parents should assist students in visiting public libraries and going out for fieldwork in public and academic museums.
