ONE-MONTH INTERNSHIP IN THE DIVISIONAL TAX CENTER BUEA
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
My one-month industrial training took place at the Divisional tax center located at Clerks’ Quarter (Buea) behind the Ministry of Secondary Education and opposite Public Services. The main objective of this training was to enable me gain experience in the industrial field, match theory with practice and also get possible solutions to the difficulties which had.
The Divisional Tax Center acts as the Government’s intermediary in receiving taxes from individuals and corporate bodies within and without Buea but, the Divisional Taxation Buea has services that work as a team (collectively) towards a common goal which is to execute the state’s budget in revenue and expenditure.
Nevertheless, as a Taxation Center, it controls and treats the accounts of individuals and corporate bodies who are tax payers within the jurisdiction.
Though with all the effectiveness of the Divisional Tax center, it has its Strengths, weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.

Taxation is not a new concept. It started since 3500BC in Mesopotamia and Egypt. During this era, the ki89ng needed more resources to provide a living for his priest, courts and their army. Since their own resources were not enough, they resorted to taxes. With the absence of money, these taxes were paid in kind either through giving a fixed proportion of the peoples harvest to the king (115) and Egypt and others paid by providing labor.
During the 20th century, the two world wars and the emergence of the modern welfare state led to the large increase in revenue. The value added tax (VAT) was introduced in France in 1954 and today it has become a central tool of tax policy in most countries including Cameroon.
In Cameroon, the tax system id self-declarative which means the tax payer goes to the tax administrator for the assessment of his tax. Taxation is the, most prominent way through which the government of Cameroon raise revenue to carry out expenditure.
In Cameroon the taxation department is just one of the departments under the ministry of finance (MINIFI). The others are custom, budget and treasury department.
